The PlayStation Portable – for everyone who thought less power and more accessories would be the true next-gen gaming dream. Almost like the PS5. Only different. The PS5 as a handheld – in miniature! Sony has decided to directly adopt the Nintendo Switch 2 concept. Why not? After all, it is a tried and tested concept that works “okay” at best. This is Sony's answer to the Nintendo Switch 2 what do you think of them?

I think modern handhelds are a little too... bulky to be as portable as they used to be. For me, the novelty of a PSP, GameBoy, or even a DS was the fact that you could just stuff that thing in your pocket when you were done with it and take it out when you were on the train or just had a bit of time to kill.
I have nothing against Steam decks or Switches, but it really feels like the range of portability is really just you're done playing on the big computer and now you want to play on the little computer in bed.

Are we talking about the already released Playstation Portal in the picture, or a hypothetical handheld they're making somewhere down the road?

Sony is apparently planning to imitate Nintendo. I don't think that's good and it also looks like Sony doesn't have any ideas of its own.

Where are the news that state Sony is making a new portable console? or this is just speculating? the question wasn't answered...

There was a Bloomberg report last year that Sony is working on a handheld, it got soft confirmation from some other outlets. There's not really any details, other than it being years away if they actually commit to it.

I don't hate the idea of a new portable playstation, but I am not hopeful either.

To add on to why I'm not exactly hopeful, I just don't think its that much of a selling point for consumers compared to the competition.
The Nintendo Switch has many exclusives on it (which Sony lacks in right now) and the Steam Deck is basically a portable gaming PC that allows for a lot of freedom. Maybe it will be good for people who already have a solid library for their ps4/5 (if you can play those games on the portable system) but I don't know.

I think part of it is theyre also just too expensive to be put in a pocket. However, there is stuff like the Miyoo Mini+ which sells for less than $50, and is small enough you can throw it in your pocket or throw it in a bag.
