So yeah, you didn't miss read anything, SNK is, bringing back the Neo Geo AES back on the market!

They're gonna be mass produced if I ain't mistaken and even better, it's only $250! Making affordable for many retro game collectors (like myself), which is a good thing in my opinion! Making a rare console and expensive affordable for the general public is good! Some people may disagree but I really don't care, I'm just happy knowing that I and others can get this piece of gaming history added into their collection

That's kind of badass....

More companies need to do this, and I don't mean the minis. I want full-size slabs O' plastic that run original games on updated hardware. I mean the scalping on retro consoles and the price hikes are ridiculously outrageous. Yes, I understand the originals have a finite number left, and working ones at that.

But I'm not buying these old consoles to keep them as museum pieces, I want to play them. Cool news, kid-o.

It’s a really brilliant move on their side if you ask me.

A lot of gamers are looking for a better alternative. Imagine owning a physical copies of those SNK classic instead of those digital only compilations..

No DRM.
No EULA.
No DLC.

Is there any chance that they'll make new games for the thing? Because that'd actually be an incentive, like the existing library plus new stuff.
You'd think so, because there are a bunch of 3rd parties doing so and the profit margin on Neo Geo games must be massive. I know the carts are expensive, but I'm pretty sure they're making more per unit than the typical physical disc/card
game on consoles right now.

Like, imagine if they did more Metal Slugs, another JRPG like Samurai Shodown RPG, some more shmups, some more platformers, etc.

Right there with you man. I'd like to say if this takes off big we could see such a resurgence but who knows. I'd go buy a brand spanking new 2027 PlayStation 2 or Super Nintendo in a heartbeat! My PS2 OG is still kickin' I just replaced the CMOS Battery and am planning on the laser next but I know eventually it will go as I cannot replace everything myself. We can dream heh

Right, got ya. Not a guy, by the way. Not the point....

Eventually, like all electronics, the capacitors in these old game consoles will start to go, one by one. I can replace them myself, it's not a big deal. But, like you, there will be some point of failure that I just can't fix or replace.

As for the PS2s, I'd say the ol' girls have a good decade or more at least, before that happens or starts to. Sony used pretty good parts in the PlayStation. And this would help alleviate the ungodly high prices in the market.

The only problem is that Sony would fix or patch out the modability of the PS2. No Free McBoot (well, at first...nothing is unhackable or jailbreakable).

Copy that its a habit I call everyone man haha but I'll respect if you don't like so.

I didn't stop to think about them patching out exploits but you're right in that eventually modders will figure it out again.

Not a big deal really. I don't get butthurt over somethings that's a nothing-burger.

They always do. Take the Xbox 360 for example. People were absolutely sure and convinced that there would never be a way to softmod it. Yet now, we can temporarily do so with a USB flash drive and play games from an external HDD or SSD, like one that has been jtaged ect. with ABadUpdate/ABadAvatar.

And Currently, Grimdoomer is working on a permanent softmod for the Xbox 360. It might have taken about 20 years, but it finally happened.

Yes, for $80-$90 a pop

Already reserved the white one. Since I still have my AES, I wanted this to look different, so I went for the white. I need a new memory card, mines been to hell and back. They're metal BTW.

What always gets me, is that in all the compilations releases, MSVX cabinets, mini cabinets, they most of the time include Art of Fighting. Never Art of Fighting 2. I think a couple of times seen 3 included somewhere but never 2. 2 is the best out of the trilogy. I always wondered why? Clearly better than 1, or 3. Even if 3 looks prettier due to the rotoscoping character graphics.

Thats kind of amazing!

I wish more companies do things like this. Small companies try to do this like the recent "not-N64" but they become really expensive and take ages to get complete. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft could just use the designs they already have. It could be even cheaper!

So I hope this is a mass success and companies just skip the "mini [console]" and just make a fully media compatible re releases. Maybe even pair it to their own OSSC if they feel darling.

With this re-release, even if companies doesnt, the indie/fan community will. So give it for granted.

Well, seeing as Neo Geo games were roughly $200 to $300 each in the '90s, that's a hell of a discount then.
Drink major sippy break.webp

If only everyone took that same approach...

But I kinda wanna see what DOES bother you now >:D
Hypocrisy.

People being two faced.

People telling BS lies about you behind your back.

People arguing and insisting they're right when you clearly lay out facts and the truth in front of them, and they still argue that you're wrong... you know, like flat Earther's.

Ya know... what pisses most people off.

Atari has done this with the 2600+ and 7800+ already

Infact, they're made by the same people who are making the NEO GEO AES+!
