Cereal first cause if you were to put the cereal second it splashes and small droplets fall around the bowl.

Sorry, but I imagine you trying to put ice in a drink, splashing everything, then looking around confused about why it splashed everywhere. Yes, cereal after milk is a little more advanced,but it is a technique that can be mastered.
