The most expensive platform to collect for?

Oh by all means enlighten me, oh magnificent electronic engineer, about real scientifc data that could prove ROMs shelf life will outlive us.

I bet you're like the other guy and have already downloaded all the roms of your games here and are playing that on emulator instead. XD

The great electronic engineer has deemed you unworthy of his secrets! (But like the other guy said, even if the ROM data is lost, the chips can be reflashed. Optical discs are a different story. The disc rot issue is over blown, but it will happen at some point. Imo it probably won't be in my lifetime so I don't care.
Also its not entirely true that replacements parts can't be found. For example I've used a few aftermarket lasers to repair disc based systems)
I'm a stickler for accuracy so I use flashcarts & ODEs instead of emulators for most things. My carts and discs don't get as much use as before but I still have to upkeep the hardware.

Good luck reflashing your ROM with only a soldering iron, oh great electronic engineer. XD

So thanks for confirming. My point stands. Plastic eventually rots, ROMs deteriorates and spare parts are not produced anymore.

You guys were just eager to say you are true electronic engineers on a videogame forum, while being pedant about it. XD Classic.

Lil bro can't even solder 😔

I can solder just fine, in fact I've posted my repair pics in the relevant thread last month. I just dont feel like needing to post them here would be off topic... XD

Still dont think cartridges are eternal tho. That's just crazy magical thinking.

What the hell are you people doing

Anyway I saw a Ninja Five-O for $600 recently

troll came by and we took the bait, sorry about that. Back on topic.

I've also noticed a good amount of Vita games getting up there in price. Makes sense with how poorly it sold. Some of the good stuff is starting to float around the $80 mark with the system itself going for at least $200+. Might be a good time to start buying some before it gets too out of control.

Even PS4 exclusives are starting to shoot upwards. I knew it was going to happen with gravity rush 2.

Oh look, now the electronic engineer turns into a stonk exchange expert... XD Hear hear people, buy old PSVita games 80$ to scalpers... XD It's a steal really.

Half the threads here are people complaining about *modern games* being that price. Call me a troll, take a good look in the mirror.

Cant wait for you guys to tell here that SD cards are like diamonds, eternal. Good luck trying to fix that.

just to clarify this is in Canadian dollars, and I'm saying you should buy the cheaper games you're interested in before they go up in price. I could see the Vita becoming an expensive system to collect for in the future.

Xbox and 360 are in a similar situation. If you want to collect get in on them because they're not going down.

The mighty Vectrex console

shopping.webp

Wish I had a Gold Plated one. Console and 1 controller $1,000-4,000. games $20-400.
This could get pricey, luckily I have my original Vectrex from 1982 and 40 years of collecting carts.
Console,1 controller,1 pack in cart $199 in 1982 quite the bargain
