The most expensive platform to collect for?

Because plastic oxydize, EEPROMs deteriorates and spare parts are not produced anymore.

The retro market is a bubble and it will burst once the game collectors get retired and the next gen who would have only known Fortnite get no interest out of all that rotten stuff. And nowaday's scalpers will have left the market since long.
Well taken care of games and hardware will retain its value, real preservation starts with the real thing after all! Also "EEPROM" (you mean Mask ROM) don't deteriorate.

Everything deteriorates, specially with use, it doesn't take an electronic engineering diploma to know that. I have yet to find any seller who would sell a consumer grade ROM with a guarantee of more than a few years.

lol "consumer grade ROM"
Mask ROMs have the data woven into them. It'll outlive you.

Lol tell yourself that to cope when your next cartridge die.

Oh wait, you wont even know, you dont even dare to use them anymore, that's why you try to flex your glorified timestamp collection on a ROM site....

Long term preservation nowadays is done on LTO tapes, and even then, it'll only guarantee 20 years of data integrity at best.

Dude...what are you even talking about. Genesis cartridges are over 30 years old right now and still work fine. Disc based media has fared way worse. You're just enjoying the trolling.

Plenty of dead Genesis cartridge already and it will only get worse.

If you think I'm trolling then don't quote me. At least I'm not lying to myself. You're on the forum of a ROM site, we all know why you're here, if you dont like that go back to the facebook marketplace.

These are easily fixed ;) Tying a 1k resistor to pin 8 on top to pin 10 on the bottom will restore locked Genesis ROM chips. I work with the real hardware 5 days a week and have done so for 10 years. Mask ROM is engraved silicon, they don't use EEPROM. This is an extremely basic detail. Even if an EEPROM did fail...flash it with the correct binary, they're rewritable. Preservation begins with the real thing.

Preservation begins with dumping and multiplying copies. Once the market collapses no one will be willing to maintain cartridges usable. Scalpers aren't interested in "fixed" cartridges anyway, the pricey stuff is still in its blister like a glorified stamp.

All the companies I have worked for have long term data preservation plans with LTO tapes.

What makes you think it will ever "collapse?" Your theory about the cartridges dying in 30 years is already proven wrong, given that 50 year old Atari games work just fine.

Nobody differentiates. This is like saying there's no value to a Pokemon game with a fixed battery when ebay sales prove that's obviously incorrect. You're just full of absurdities aren't you?

You said yourself you need the dump to flash your ROMs back just to get it usable... XD Everything has a shelf life. When you "pro electronic engineer" fix something, you don't guarantee it will work for the next 40 years. XD Because it wont.

Take the piss because I'm just reminding you of your hypocrisy. Dont quote me back, I'm done with you, if you cant discuss things without insulting me you can fuck off.

Oh I'm not done with you yet. You expect to be able to lie and spread misinformation without being checked? You're not very good at lying or assertion. You crumbled the moment it became obvious you had no authority and are entirely talking out of your ass.

Yeah, yeah, fake news, yaddi yadda. XD

Now go find me a real tech sheet where it's stated that your cartridge shelf life is 40 years, bozo.

Somehow all of these 40 year old games work. You don't know what you're talking about.

You don't know what you're talking about, do you?

Broken record much? Give me actual proof. I can find you pics of preserved wax records stuttering like you do now, wont prove it's a good medium for long term preservation.

Do you have any proof? You don't seem to know anything about this thing you've made your mind up on.

If you want to find pics of broken cartridge games just google for it.

Be the better man, Be the engineer. Be the true expert and bring actual technical proof about your claim that ROMs don't deteriorate and their expected shelf life will outlive us all.

Boomers in denial have made a parody of this whole retrogame market. I cant wait for it to crash and burn.

Destroyed games aren't breaking from age, now are they?

And wait...and wait...and wait...and wait. You take a very passive stance on life.

Moving goalposts much? I know I can wait for your proofs forever, bozo... XD

Damn you guys are going off 😂. But ya, _oBSOLEte_ is mostly wrong, most electronic faults can be fixed. My proof is my diploma in electrical engineering and all the shit I've fixed in the past. Being handy with a soldering iron really does help when your a physical collector.

Random guys on a ROM site forum claiming they got mad soldering skillz say everything electronic can be fixed and your ROM cartridges will last forever. Just duct tape and alcohol cleaning really, no spare parts ever needed.

Source : trust me bro.

Meanwhile in the real world people are so scared to use their 500$ cartridges that they dont even dare getting them out of their crystal cases. Please post more pics of your precious glorified stamp collection here on a dump site, but dont pretend it's for "muh preservation" sake. It's pathetic.

This bubble will eventually explode and all the liars and scalpers who claimed that physical media is eternal to justify batshit crazy prices for their ejunk will be gone to another scam market. And no real gamer will miss these clowns.

Idk bro it just seem like you don't have the experience or knowledge to be talking about this.
Also I doubt many collectors will say they do it for preservation. Most just like to surround themselves with things they enjoy. It's not that deep.
As for the market, it can do what it wants. That's way I still frequent rom sites. i can choose when to participate in the market when I want to.

Oh by all means enlighten me, oh magnificent electronic engineer, about real scientifc data that could prove ROMs shelf life will outlive us.

I bet you're like the other guy and have already downloaded all the roms of your games here and are playing that on emulator instead. XD
