So, the 32X has this metal divider designed for model 1 systems. I am a model 1 owner. Is that metal required? Is it a good idea to get one?
I’d be hooking it up through non-RF input to a CRT. Is the metal divider just for RF protection, or is it something more?

It's there to help ground the 32X in case you have the wrong voltage going through the Genesis. As long as you're not giving the console too much juice, you should be fine.
