Let's take a look at a man who is a household name in the gaming industry his name is Hideo Kojima a game developer of the last years with a bunch of gaming classics!

I'm starting My favorite games from him are the Metal Gear Solid series, Castlevania Lords of Shadow and Zone of the Enders !

Now it’s your turn to talk and discuss about your favorite games from him.

Obviously it's MGS3. It’s more than a stealth game set in the Cold War. It’s a story about loyalty, identity, and what it means to fight for something bigger than yourself, even if it breaks you.
On the surface, yeah, it’s about sneaking through the jungle, eating snakes, and hiding in bushes. But those little things, catching your own food, treating your injuries, changing your camo to blend into the environment, make the experience surprisingly personal. You’re not just playing as Naked Snake, you are him. The game slows you down, makes you think about every move, every bullet, every choice. It creates a sense of vulnerability that most action games avoid. And that makes every success feel earned, not handed to you.
The story hits harder than expected. The relationship between Snake and The Boss is one of the most powerful I’ve seen in a game, or in any medium, really. She’s not just a mentor. She’s a symbol of sacrifice, someone who chooses to be remembered as a villain to protect something bigger. The way the game slowly peels back the layers of her character, until that final fight in the field of white flowers… it’s haunting. That moment stuck with me.
What I really admire about MGS3 is how everything ties into its themes. Gameplay and story aren’t separate, they’re working together. Camouflage isn’t just for stealth, it’s about identity. Interrogating enemies isn't just a mechanic, it’s a reminder that everyone has a story. Even Ocelot’s ridiculous revolver spinning has meaning, it’s about control, style, chaos, all wrapped into one.
And then there’s the ending. That salute. That single tear. The game doesn’t go out with some over-the-top explosion or a big victory speech. It ends with loss, with Snake becoming Big Boss, not out of pride, but out of necessity. It’s such a quiet, painful, human moment. Not many games are brave enough to go there.
Honestly, Metal Gear Solid 3 made me see games differently. It showed me that a game can be cinematic without losing its soul, that it can ask tough questions without spelling everything out. It’s smart, stylish, and weird in all the right ways, and it trusts you to keep up.
That’s why it’s my favorite. Not just because it’s fun (which it is), but because it left a mark. It made me think. It made me feel. And that’s what the best stories do.

I'm a huge sucker for games that slowly unfurl a bunch of interlocking mechanics and systems as you play. I love it when I get a new piece of gear or usable item that then causes something I got thirty hours ago to have new uses.

Of the MGS games I've played 2, 3, and 5 do a pretty good job of this, but it's really at its best in Death Stranding. I love that game, and I will die on this hill that it's my favorite Kojima game. Using ladders on odd walls only to see that a designer definitely thought of that and put a path. Getting ziplines and going back to the beginning area to trivialize that annoying windy forest bit. Smuggling bikes into places you really shouldn't have bikes. Doing funny things with the hovering cargo carriers or the little robot that follows you in Director's Cut. Realizing that you can hurl the package you're carrying at a dude to knock him out, and then grabbing it back again with the sticky gun to smack another dude with it is probably a top ten gaming moment for me.

Also the quiet moments of driving around a huge load, grinding out the stars. Really tickles the ol' brain chemistry.

I beat Death Stranding a couple years ago and picked it back up recently to finish achievements. Got my hundo today and I am feeling fully Kojima-pilled. Can't wait to play DS2 in however many years it takes to release the final director's cut on Steam. In the meantime I still need to finish the Metal Gear series, mainly Peacewalker and Phantom Pain. Each game has its own specific flavor so it's hard to pick a favorite, they're just different moods. My nostalgia for NES Metal Gear is very potent though, I've probably replayed that the most times.

You mean your favorite games from Konami, right? The Castlevania series and Zone of the Enders weren't made by Kojima. Aside from the Metal Gear series and Death Stranding, he is also the father of the abandoned Solar Boy Django trilogy and Lunar Knights (this last one I'm not so sure if it was made by his team).

Since he was Vice President at Konami as far as I know, I thought he would have been involved in these games as well.

Huh, I didn't even realize this. Gonna be honest, I kept skipping over these when browsing because I wasn't sure it was worth trying without the central gimmick of the game. Are they worth checking out with the solar sensor patches?

I thought that before too. I mean, Solar Boy Django is about a young vampire hunter, and Konami is the creator of Castlevania. One may think at first that everything was made by the same man or studio.

Yes. I will call it a nice life improvement over the original system. It may look like you are cheating at first, but the game punishes you after a while for having the solar sensor always at max level. Also, thanks to the solar sensor patch you don't need to cook yourself under a real sun anymore during boss fights ::winkfelix

What I find really unfortunate is he wanted to make a Silent Hill game with his team and since there were disputes with Konami in 2015 he left and his team was also dissolved by Konami. I would have loved to play a Silent Hill game from him.

Don't remind me. That would've been amazing if it was completed

Sad Its Over GIF by Star Wars

A business title doesn't imply creative involvement at all. Lords of Shadows wasn't even made by Konami, they outsourced it to a Spanish studio.

He was a producer on Zone of the Enders, so he was at least involved, but probably not the main creator compared to the director, etc. Depending on the development, a producer might just steer design in a certain direction and approve or block certain ideas and elements. Most often a lead game designer/director will be the main creator.

A good source for game credits is mobygames.com.

MGS 1, 2, and 3 will always have a place in my heart. I like 4, PW, and 5 well enough too, but 1 through 3 are just special.
