The Hardest Games

Oh wow!
I'm still really unfamiliar with the series, beyond knowing they're notorious for their difficulty. It was only once I was well in the reeds of the NES port did I realise it was a port at all of the arcade original!
I'll look up the differences between Ghouls N' Ghosts and Super Ghouls N' Ghosts and figure out which to play next (will likely be the Genesis or SNES entries as I already have them setup)
No matter your decision, note that there's a hidden chest in stage 1 of both games if you jump (or double jump in Super) at the far left side of the first screen. Jump in random locations and keep note of chest spawns. In Ghouls, skip the first chest you spawn, as that always contains a magician!

They're very different games with different mechanics and stages, and while I have a soft spot for Ghouls, you can't go wrong with either of them!

I've started Ghouls for Mega Drive and already the difference in how vivid the colours are is crazy xD That and Sir Arthur seems to have put on some timber. I was too late to read about the chest to the left, and got caught out by the Magician, but at least it earned me a few more dings on Retro Achievements!

I dare anyone else to 100% it

I just properly finished Ghosts N' Goblins with no save states!!
I FEEL
::fire STRONGTH WELLING ::fire

I didn't think the game would be all that tough, and in many ways, it was very manageable (stages 1, 4 and even 5 are very do-able, and that's half the game!) but oh man, stages 2, 3 and 6....AND having to do it twice over with the right weapons equipped...damn. That was pretty tough!
Pretty good

*Internal cries of "Never beaten even the first loop"*

If you're having a hard time and running out of ideas, let me know! I haven't played the GEN release in a while, but advice should generally work between both versions. Stage 4 and 5 are the ones I have the most trouble with, and their bosses are very tough.

The only other piece of advice I'll say for now: what the chests contain are not random, but it does change depending on whether you've lost your armor or not. And the axe is useful at the end of part 1 of stage 3!

I may be giving away too much...let me know if you need any further advice!

The info about the chest contents changing is nifty, thanks! I'll remember to keep an eye out for an axe also...Otherwise, is the dagger the recommended weapon again like last time? At the moment I'm sticking with a sword. Also, is there anything different about gold armour aside from the colour? It looks like it still breaks in one hit.

And finally, how many stages are there? The first had 6.5. The map screen for this makes it seem like this'll have many more stages.

Generally, the dagger is still the best. That said, the weapons are generally pretty good in the game. The green saucer and axe are good in specific sections of the game.

Gold armor has a move if you hold the attack button. The dagger's move is very strong as it creates an illusion that throws daggers when you do.

5 Stages + Lucifer, but you can only fight Lucifer on the second run.

Oh! And there's a level select if you run out of time to finish it tonight and you dont want to completely reset all progress!

Go further

It WILL get incredibly difficult
I look forward to finishing it lol. Seems like the type of game you need to dedicate your time to as well, but that's just games in general.

Can confirm, I consider myself adept at stealth and some of the later chapter is pretty strict with timing and movement, the one where you need to get to the basement in hospital is one of it.

The first school level is Nerve Wracking, especially if you're trying to get thr candles

I think the hardest came that I came across were:
Ninja Gaiden
Nioh
Elden Rings
Dark Souls
Wo long Dynasty
Fight games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighters. That what I remember.

I've just finished my first run of Ghouls N' Ghosts! That was a whole lot of fun! The hardest parts for me were definitely the start of stage 2 and the boss of stage 4. Onwards to the true end ::lurking

Great work! Yeah, dodging the rock turtles can be difficult as their patterns make it difficult when more than one is on screen. The bridge isn't too bad once you know which spots cause you to fall, but those first attempts are tough. I tend to run by the Red Arremer instead of engaging with it to reach the checkpoint of stage 2.

Don't forget! In run 2, you need the Psycho Cannon to beat Lucifer, which you can get by opening a chest while in gold armor!

Some still run the majority of run 2 using the knife, but I tend to stick with the Psycho Cannon for its increased power.

Great work!
Finally got the true end to Ghouls N' Ghosts! It's great that the end screens actually have a tonne of lore. Feels rewarding. Definitely had more fun playing this than Ghosts, but both are still a good time.

Agreed!
Oddly enough, it's actually a really short game, but reaching the ending is no small feat.

Space Ace or Chakan will be attempted next!! ::hellmo And if I beat enough of these suggestions I may try and put together a ranking of which I found toughest....

Oh yeah, and I will re-iterate once more Taz-Mania for Genesis is hard as obsidian without save states. It's manageable to a point, but once you get to the mines - Hoo'boy. Give it a try if you want to see just how BS a platformer game can be.

Glad you enjoyed it! Princess Prin Prin has been saved yet again!

As an addendum, I'll leave some fun trivia: Princess Prin Prin has the same measurements as Chun-Li! This information is very important, I swear!

Wish you good luck on Space Ace or Chakan, @Kamako!

This is critical info. But Sir Arthur's cake is unrivalled. Him climbing those ladders got me acting some kinda way.
