Objectively I'd say

2d fighters = Ball
Tekken, 3d fighters = Bat

Subjectively, I have a soft spot for Bat because it's what I saw a lot in the arcades I went to and I think it looks better aesthetically.

There are other options too, like the hybrid bullet.

I like the big, long joysticks... you know, the thick, girthy ones that you can get both hands around and really put some action into.

All the arcade machines i ever played had Bat top joysticks, so i am far more used to those, Bat for me

here before someone say mix/hitbox

I got one recently, namely the cosmoxgaming r16 and am trying to get to grips with it.

They recommend those for fighters but I also attempt to play other genres too and it has too many ups and downs with directions

Still, very responsive gadget and the open source firmware is a bonus

Ball top is better. Nature makes things with a ball top, guys like your....
because it is the superior design that stops your hand from sliding off.
Until they invent a joystick with a ham sandwich on top I'm sticking with my answer.

don't laugh at "ball top"
There aren't many arcade sticks with right handed joysticks since I am primarily left handed and I am quite fast with button presses with my left hand
I utilize what some may call an "unorthodox" grip when playing fighting games and the ball top is more secure
I grip underneath with the stick part between the middle and ring fingers
