I haven't had the chance to play this game but it doesn't look bad for an RPG and the English translation of the game is well done at least.

So what's different with this translation opposed to the other one?

This one is more modern, with better hacking behind it. I'd wager whatever text there is is more faithful to the Japanese, too.

My understanding is that, at least on a surface level, it meshes DQ-ish gameplay with Greek mythology, but there's probably more a series veteran could tell you.

No that's actually about it. The last one that was made, Glory of Heracles for the DS is a bit different as the combat presentation is less like classic Dragon Quest (it looks more like Dragon Quest 8's) and has somewhat of a gimmicky combat system, but is pretty decent too. If you like old Japanese rpgs, you will probably enjoy the series.

never heard of any of the games so that gives me six games to play now!

Oh God no! This game broke me a few years ago. It's the kind of game where when you die, you lose half your money. Tried to save up for gear near the beginning of the game but kept getting killed by baddies that put you to sleep and losing everything. Screw this game!

Haven't played this series. I remember hearing about it from JonTron in his "Hercules" video.
