The Game Awards

I'll go to a friends house and we'll watch it while drinking and playing SF6. I never have expectations for it, it's just Geoff getting us cool trailers and some muppets

I'm hoping for some news regarding the Doom The Dark Ages DLC. Some info for Kingdom Hearts 4 would be cool, but I don't think they have anything ready yet.

Looks like a new Divinity game is going to be announced

I guess my highest hopes would be release dates for FF VII Remake part 3, Kingdom Hearts 4 & Dragon Quest 12. Not so much announcements or teaser trailers, but proper concrete release dates.

A proper official confirmation for a Persona 6 would also be nice. I love Persona 5, and I am interested in the Persona 4 remake, but I think I'm ready to move onto the next mainline game now.
Agreed. They have really rang the last drop out of Persona 3-5. Sadly I feel like we won't get a P6 announcement for a couple years, I'd imagine that team will make Metaphor DLC or release a Royal version before moving on to Persona 6. I can dream, though. FF7 Remake part 3 and Kingdom Hearts 4 seem possible, dunno about Dragon Quest 12 though. Maybe there will be another trailer for the remake of DQ7?

I hope the last announcement is something decent. Last year was Intergalactic, which seemed to wow people but I thought it looked pretty lame. I'm thinking they will announce another Cyberpunk game even though it will be years away from releasing.

Never cared for them, they had turned into the Gaming industry's Oscars, where instead of winning for your success you win if you know a guy that knows a guy, not even Indies are safe, their disrespect for Pizza Tower over a game not even his maker's mom know was a total flunk

Don't get me started with the actual offense of they rushing Baldur's Gate III team even when they were in the middle of homagind a companion that died

I just go to sleep and browse any interesting trailers following day, hard to believe people actually watch the entire thing, really? with Geoff Snoozely on stage, i'd rather stare at a blank wall.

Silent Hill F is mid at best but sadly one of the more em well tolerable game compared to most nowadays which only speaks of the state of gaming nowadays I don't know If I would call it the worst Silent Hill game but its well not good as a Silent Hill game if it was a stand alone that would be more debatable but as a Silent Hill game nah.
I take Silent Hill 2 the Og even Silent Hill 1 over Silent Hill Failure everyday of the week
I completely agree .
I would even say it aint that interesting overall and plays by the numbers .

The gameplay was expected to be a weird Souls-like with weapons durability , the story was rather scrambled and needed multiple playthroughs to understand the whole story , its extremly linear and the fox-marriage plot was more in the way than being actually good . Its even somehow cringe when i think about the analogy or metaphor of marriage from this plot alone . Cant remember when a friend of mine dismembered and replaced his wifes arm with a wolf/fox arm , burned her back with a symbol and stabbed her eyes with a mask in his marriage . Not even metaphorically .

Even the horror aint really horrific . Rather bland , forseeable and sadly really generic . Just surface level stuff and everything was scripted through hell and beyond .

Its a nice try but not an impactful one for sure . Typical modern Konami failure project . I would even assume that the game eventually had multiple visions how the trailer was shown and had a different vibe compared to the end-product we got .

Not that I expect Konami to show off any bangers, but if they show a trailer for their Castlevania anime I'll be happy. Not like they'll show a trailer for a Castlevania game or anything, I gave up long ago.

Nothing about it gets me excited in the slightest, to be honest.
Yeah , im in this kind of wagon too .
Looking at the announced games , its still either sequel stuff , remasters or even remakes which looks boring .

When new games are getting announced they are most of the time .... there .... existing out of reasons that arent really there but we know that money flows into it.

Even the shown " gameplay " looks more fake and samey stuff as usual , covering only few genres as always and nothing exactly fresh to be hyped about .

I prefer indies overall . I had more reactions towards indie-games than Tripple AAA sloparama . Even more hype when translations and hacks arrive on CDRomance .

Word on the street is they're revealing a hot new f2p Korean action MMO with loot and gacha elements. Gaming has never been so back.

Honestly I never cared allot about the awards. I mean it means nothing to me and does nothing for me. Honestly even if the game I loved got the game of the year it would not change a single thing what so ever I would still love the game and I would still play it.

So honestly I see no point with the awards more than big companies applauding them self.

The awards are always weird to me .
Even if the awards are meant that the games are truly objectively the best of the best , its not really universally and especially individually accepted .

Its actually advertisement to promote a game as something like " the best game you need to play it before you die or the curse of ignorance will burn your lively flesh to ashes " .

Looking at one of the GotYs would be Overwatch. It got the GotY and is it really that great ?
I dont think so . It was a cool game till the updates and balance-patches ruined the game alot . And the whole story went nowhere . The sequel even came and went . So much for a GotY game . Maybe from its year it was released but never nowadays .

Yeah for sure to me it´s more the like one kid in class got the brilliant idea to give him self a gold star because he think he´s smartest in class.

Yeah 2million people might think Expedition 33 is the best game ever made but then you could have 2million people that think it´s a good game but maybe not the best.

As you said it´s very Objectively.

Also I noticed a few times it does not seam to matter what people vote for as they have a jury that will make the final call any way.

I think it´s all silly and rather narcissistic.

It'd be better if there was at least more of a public vote on things. Allegedly the public voting accounts for 10% of the voting weight, and the other 90% are people in the industry. Well, not everyone, there are newspapers/news sites that I certainly don't think of when I think of gaming, like Esquire and Rolling Stone. Plus some podcasts, but not big gaming influencers, which at that point if you're letting podcasters vote, why wouldn't you let big streamers or YouTube channels vote? It definitely seems self-masturbatory, which it probably is. At the end of the day it's paid for by ads, it's just a giant ad salad with some dressing and maybe a tasty crouton here or there.

Objectivity regarding the best video game made is hard because of the many factors.

Objectivity based upon a relatively small sample of people isn't representative of a wider statistic.

Hopefully we get to see more of what Hideo Kojima and Fumito Ueda has been working on. We haven't heard anything about Project Robot in about a year.

I'm not a big fan of Death Stranding and the other guy made The Last Guardian? I forgot it if was well received but we can get surprised.

Thats what i meant . It is seen as something objective in its entirety but its subjectively selected and used as advertisement-material overall . The GotY title dont say much as a overglorified Advertisement -beacon .

The award-shows itsself pushes only selected games but ignores other games that were released in the same year. Yeah , from the sheer quantity of indie-games and double AA-games inclusive besides tripple AAA , its maybe impossible to show them all but many underrated ones will be ignored through heaven , hell and back .

Yeah it's really an elaborate marketing stunt. Reminds me of the whole GT Academy sony pulled a few years back.
