Early on the 22nd, the Falcom Music Channel was hit with two copyright strikes from someone directly employed at Falcom. ~8 hours after this post was made, it was nuked by the fatal third copyright strike, resulting in its termination.

Josep, who ran the channel for over a decade plus, worked tirelessly to not just archive all of Falcom's in-game music, but give credit to the composers that made said music. Quite a few parts of the channel featured some very hard-to-come-by stuff, and many people got introduced to Falcom through this very channel and all the music it put out.

This decision by Falcom is quite severe, as not only was it free publicity to their work (in fact, they had used the channel on their main website at least once), but it also contradicts their free music use policy. Josep wasn't even getting any money out of it; it was done out of sheer devotion and nothing more.

"Unmitigated self-sabotage" and "complete disaster" isn't even enough to describe what just happened here...

Can't wait for the shills to come and drone on that Falcom was in the right because copyright infringement or something. The shills always come eventually.

It sounds like they fucked over one of their biggest fans.

I hope that employee gets fired.

I refuse to believe its Falcom doing, it has to be some random third-party troll shitting things up for everyone.
Yeah, especially if they used the channel before for their own benefit.

This is some rogue douchebag that made that move.

Youtube is so shit, we can basically pretend to work for Zenimax and copyright strike Bethesda's own videos and would be taken down for a week before they notice and fix it. Its just that bad over on Youtube. ::dkfacepalm

While the theory that this could be just some random guy holds water, I frankly wouldn't be surprised if Falcom themselves did this.
They are not the company I fell in love with a very long time ago when they pumped out incredible games after incredible games. Their decisions have constantly stagnated and are the equivalent of a freight train on a constant disaster report, plummeting constantly over and over again.

Technically when you post a video on youtube you're abiding to their rule (like any private company).

Now the thing is that Youtube being the monopoly for video hosting online is what gives them more power.

I also suspect that maybe the Falcom music channel uploaded music that are only available via a paywall which is what may have brought them into trouble.

This is horrible on multiple levels, and it reminds me of a few things I'd have loved to forget.

From "Anime America" getting copyright strikes from a random dude in Italy to JonTron getting all the money from his (then) most expensive-to-produce video taken due to a random claim that, as far as I know, was never solved.

And, of course, there's the issue that brought it directly to my attention:

Not the first time Ross had been to that particular song and dance, but still sucks to see.

Fuck off, YouTube.

Zophar and KHinsider are still there at least (and much better than Youtube's compression algorithm for mp3).

I agree, but their rules have been inconsistent at best... for YEARS.

Plus, these videos were all demonitized — there was no reason to target them other than because he didn't compose the music himself (and, at that point, they might as well just delete the entire platform).

Yeah, I suspect that's the core issue.

I wonder if they gave him ANY reason why the strikes were placed against him.

This is the thing: Youtube as a site sucks (especially thanks to Google's claws on it), you can't say certain words or stream certain content (copyrighted of course, violent and sexual content being not allowed can be understandable) without getting in troubles.

But on the other hand why isn't there an alternative site for that? VidLii is nice but barely visited and Dailymotion is basically dead with Vimeo...

I can understand the complains from people but on the other hand they still stay in like a toxic relationship with an abusive husband.

Yeah, I suspect that's the core issue.

This is why I think it's "safer" to stick to the in-game OST not the arranges that may have been done for a different label or artist that may be more regarding about copyright violation. Remember that in Japan they also see that content differently than in the west.

I see Super Arrange for the first copyright striked song in the list so it's the non in-game OST being targeted.

It's a wave of difference hearing that lossless FLAC quality too, especially for the Falcom Special Box arranges.

That's a shame. They were my go-to channel for each time wanted to listen to the Genesis version of "Be Careful" from "Ys III."

Eh, at least I still have the KHinsider rips which sound just as great.

I like the convenience of a youtube channel for VG OSTs but I'd choose FLAC over MP3 all day if I get to download them for my phone or MP4 player.

We need more semi-hidden website for OSTs to be downloaded instead of relying on public places that can get copystriked by bots and companies.

According to Josep, this was a legitimate Falcom employee. He's tried to reach out about what's going on before, but nothing has come up.

Not a single cent was earned from any of the music put up. As posted in the OP, the entire channel and its music hosting was done on its own volition.

Since I didn't think about it in the first place, I want to post this addendum. If a mod wants to edit the OP (as my time's up) and put this at the bottom of it, that'd be nice.

That's awful a channel got nuked like this--especially when it's been around as long as it had. Like, why take issue now when you referenced the channel in the past?

I'm curious if it was just his channel--like did Falcom use a clanker to find infringing channels and the employee just executed the combos?

Either this is the composer of the unused music or he got those OST in unconventional ways...

At least I hope most are saved on other sites in the best quality.
