I'm not all that surprised because all traction got lost as soon as that PirateSoftware guy (probably bearer of the most ironic name ever) got involved and started derailing the project through the conscious, purposeful spread of misinformation and even of personal attacks on Ross himself.

It's really not Ross's fault, though... He did everything he could: he made himself available to anyone willing to cover the subject, he assembled a topnotch team of hardworking volunteers... He even offered to pay non-English-speaking YouTubers and influencers out of his own pocket to help bridging the gap. This is on us, gamers, for largely nor stepping up to bat and moreso on companies and their lackeys (both paid and unpaid) for refusing to follow the fucking law and actually getting away with it.

Yeah, I don't think any of this is really that surprising. People don't realize how little casual gamers actually care. Most people who have consoles just don't honestly pay that much attention to gaming news in general. I don't think people on here realize just how many average joes, stoners, and other types just get Playstation's and shit just to play 2K and COD. It's most console sales I promise you. I don't help myself, I just pre ordered Metal Gear, and I'm saving up for Ninja Gaiden. Nothing will change. Just enjoy stuff while it lasts and don't stress about things outside of your control.

If business as usual is what we can all expect from the games industry going forward, it makes the prospect of spending any time (or money) on new games considerably less appealing. I enjoy retro games for simple reasons, but I'm starting to believe I gravitate toward them more because I know they will always be there—they can't be snatched away by some outside entity unless somebody broke into my house and took them.

Stop Killing Games is a pro-industry campaign in that it is a battle to reinforce consumer confidence in the medium. The industry, perhaps correctly, believes they can continue on this bad faith campaign of holding gamers' libraries hostage at the cost of marginal cases like myself. It's a bleak state of affairs that it takes such a herculean effort to have a chance at enacting what should be common sense practices that most people could agree upon. Hard to argue that we haven't entered a techno-feudalist dark age if this has become the norm. If this campaign indeed fails, there's not much the industry can do to stop killing my interest in (new) games altogether

like one of the comments said, he 100% said that because one of HIS next games were a live service thing that would be impacted... completely ignoring that making games that work on online terms are very different than making singleplayer games that die without a server

This isn't a dig on you, just sharing a thought this brought up.

Man I hate the state of gaming shit online. I guess shit online in general. Seems like everyone is so excited to share their hot takes and shit that it just all piles together to where it's some random "influencer" just regurgitating the same exact stuff just to appeal to their audience. You saw it recently with Doom.

Idk, it doesn't really tie in with the topic, but those thumbnails good lord. I hope one of these days people get their heads out of their asses, doubtful it'll happen anytime soon though. Keep smelling them farts I suppose.

Either way, my opinion earlier isn't to say that I don't care, I truly do, it's just that I don't really see much changing at all. Companies are so intertwined with our daily lives that it's just not realistic to think differently. And I guess you could make the argument that that's the exact complacency that they expect out of "consumers" but you know?

Shit is rough, really rough this year especially. Idk how much longer all this crap is gonna matter to be completely frank with everyone.

Yeah, I used to watch Pyro back in the 2014 era YouTube, honestly I think it's worse now than it was then, even with the edgy ass humor people had.

Idk, it honestly just seems like most gaming content. It's either Let's Play's that aren't even fun to watch anymore because the novelty of it ran out once all the cool dudes began to make it their 9-5, and online grifters that push narratives for their meatrider audience, even if the personality themselves don't believe in it or think that way, just saying it because it's the popular opinion.

Been a real struggle for me lately, and I don't blame it on the internet really, I'm just in a trash spot rn in life and everything affects me. I'm trying though. Just sucks when I play something new that I think isn't that bad, just to find out it's getting dogpiled for like a month until people get bored of the opinion and actually try the game out and find it's good.

Legitimately had a recommendation this week from The Act Man about "I WAS WRONG ABOUT DOOM?????!!!!!!!!!!!!" and it's like, yeah, you probably played it, liked it, saw that people were dogging on it, and had to pump a video out so took the popular opinion and rolled with it for views. People are so disingenuous these days man it's terrible. Act Man IS pretty bad with this though, he used to be cool.

Yeah I typically avoid all that like a school bus fire, only getting roped in because I liked seeing what a game was about before buying it for my little brother. He's older now, so that phase is over, but yeah. What gets me is the monolithic approach some creators are getting. They play games, and are mildly funny at best why they get put on a pedestal is beyond me.

It's kind of refreshing knowing that my extremely poor impressions of the guy don't exist in a vacuum. He genuinely comes across as dismissive and hostile.

Idk man, he's the type that freakin loves that type of game, no doubt he thought it was good when he played it. I mean, maybe, I quit before the game got really good, but I wasn't really feeling 100% the day the game dropped. I think the main thing has been the Mick Gordon situation, and when the game dropped, the music was quieter than the game. That game is fire idc.

all mmos already have that shutdown hour glass hanging over them, the people who play them just have no idea how much longer they have. I feel like it would be bad for MMO addicts in the same way gacha having to disclose their chances was bad for gacha game addicts.

big agree, its like theres like four or five big youtubers right now who churn out exclusively ragebait slop content for gamers. every time someone on here starts talking about forced diversity or something like that (usually the same three talking points) you already know theyre just reciting a youtube video. bring back critical thinking skills
