Ask Me Anything
What's your favorite song on the Yoshi's Island OST?
that is a very difficult question
the cave theme in yoshi's island is very memorable to me due to the glimmering, sparkling sounds in the music matching the shining, glimmering waterfalls seen in the backgrounds of those underground levels
this one brings back powerful memories for me as well
Did you ever play Yoshi's Story?
i hope this does not offend yoshi's story fans, but yoshi's story was the first time i was ever truly disappointed with a video game. i did not like it at all and still think very little of the game

Lol it's okay, we won't have beef ::winkfelix

Last time I played it, I was in the age-range the game was targeting; my memories of it are from the POV of an easily impressed child. I want to replay it as an adult and see it from a new perspective.

I'm a little surprised by that choice if only because I always thought that track sounds rather sinister! At least for a level theme. I like Castle & Fortress for the melody that Song of Storms later reused but my favorite is the Big Boss theme. I've even found some remixes of it that I'm a fan of!

Why do you like Yoshi's Island?
i think it is probably the best example of strong game design any 2-D game has had
i believe every single level in the game introduces some kind of concept, a mechanic, a platform, an enemy type, each level does at least one of these things, which keeps things from feeling too similar
the bonus games you can earn by chance at the end of levels is a great incentive to collect the little flower men
the items you can earn from those bonus games helping ease the difficulty of getting 100% completion is a swell idea, the 100% unlocking additional more difficult levels, as well as the ability to play the bonus games whenever you like, is a fantastic reward for your work
the visual style is adorable and incredibly charming, the bosses like the big koopa troopa and his funny face is burned into my mind, the level designs themselves are so distinct from one another, exploring different layouts, from exploration style levels to more straight forward action
it to me, is the perfect package for a 2-D platformer game
donkey kong country 2 is a close second, but yoshi's island is more refined
