I don't know how many of you remember this, but YouTube used to severely limit the video length of anything uploaded to their platform until users achieved 'Director' status, at which point they were given free rein to do whatever they wanted (pretty much).
That (combined with both crappy upload speeds and some people still dealing with faulty dial-up connections) meant that videos REALLY had to get their points across in a 3-5 minute 'window', and, as a result, I feel that even modern short uploads pack much more of a punch and are more content-heavy than most video essays currently on the platform.
As I said on another thread, I enjoy watching things made for fun +15 years ago and I never feel like I'm not getting my money's worth of content whenever I watch something that's just a few minutes long.
