i think i had a mcdonalds on holiday last in 2021 and KFC hasnt tasted good since at least 2018 i used to do cinema and go KFC across the road. The food court in my city mall is completely dead.

I only go to KFC nowadays to buy dipping sauces. Their food mostly sucks, and It's a handy way to get rid of some of my loose change from time to time.

Haven't had McDonald's in years. Decades, even. Same goes for Burger King. But I know BK used to be really, really generous with the coupons. They'd send us a sheet in the mail once a month or so, but haven't done that in a long time, now

I often cook / bake my own food. Granted, I like to joke that I, "eat like a pet," as I tend to just make the same three of four things over and over again. But living alone for a long time and always cutting it close on bills made me pretty savvy about a cheap dinner. Making pasta sauce from spices and tomato paste. Baking my own damn bread. Stewing black beans and brown rice together to get a nicer flavor. Etc.

But bread flower is about $10 a bag where I live now. And getting non-GMO rice isn't cheap, either. And nearly all fast food options - save for Taco Bell - are too expensive to eat. I guess Domino's isn't half bad, if you use their "2 or more items for $6.99" deal. But even that has gone up in price...

Nowadays, my wife and I can still get lunch at Taco Bell for about $15 - $20 for the two of us. But we gotta be pretty particular. If you go between 2 - 5 PM, drinks are $1. We eat inside so we can get a few refills. I eat off the value menu, while she usually gets a quesadilla. We're always full afterwards, and sometimes have leftovers! But we are both light eaters.

Wow, does Fast Food ever ding you on the drinks. $3 or more for a medium out here. And if you go drive thru, your drink is nothing but ice, anyway. If there aren't free refills involved, I can't do it

You're not wrong there. It is also good that I'm cooking for myself a lot more these days. Sure, I'm eating the healthier option but I'm also developing cooking as a skill.

I’m personally split on this. Boohoo for the multi billionaires and allat, but these places tend to have really good items where I live here in kuwait. So I think they’ll probably still find a way thrive overseas rather than their home country, but at the same time there’s so much good and cheap food alternatives that the disappearance of these franchises would only cause me a lingering sense of melancholy, rather than need.

You're not wrong there. It is also good that I'm cooking for myself a lot more these days. Sure, I'm eating the healthier option but I'm also developing cooking as a skill.

Sure it´s nice to go out once in a while eat a burger or my favorite Sushi. But yeah eating home cooked meal is better for us all in the long run health wise but also as you said developing cooking skills.


We don´t have this issue in my country but to my knowledge in America they had obesity problems for years because it´s been cheaper to eat on MCdonalds than buying ingredients and making food your self. So if fast food is on decline maybe prices on normal food can be lowered to people eat less fast food ?

Was watching a couple videos on why the fast food industry is currently on a downswing. It pretty much boiled down to rising food & labor costs beyond inflation, declining food quality, understaffing - which leads to increased waiting periods, and consumers instead opting to either go to locally owned restaurants or purchase all the ingredients at the grocery store and manually cook these meals at home.

I also think it's because people are starting to become health conscious. They've noticed the many issues with frozen, pre-made slop and have begun to live a healthier lifestyle. Exercising, studying recipes from internet videos and the like, consuming fruits, veggies, anything else with health benefits, and ditching fast food entirely (some of whom already spent decades avoiding these popular chains).

I believe the only solutions that these companies can do to save the fast food industry is by providing better quality food at a more reasonable price and hire more employees so people won't spend close to 10 minutes at the drive-thru or at least 20 waiting inside the restaurant. Sadly, given the current state of the economy, I don't see that happening any time soon. Juggernauts like McDonald's, KFC, and Subway will continue to make bank from squeezing every penny out of the average consumer and fast food will continue to be mediocre, insanely overpriced, and anything but "fast".

In otherside of the world, in my place, fast food associated with pricey food. So the service is kind of descent. In my place as well, locale also have own fast food but cheaper albeit is not as clean or as descent looking place like western fast food. And they started to kill western fastfood because the quality if not on par, its better than western fast food chain. I live in south east asia, where we often eats something that not too healthy if according to some. Oily, spicy, and looking bad aesthetically (well the taste is known delicious).

I think, I can relate on how fast food chains are left by people though. Because we have alternative now

There is a lot of food safety checks in the UK so yes i believe this to be true. my favourite cafe has a 5 star hygiene rating prefer them to make it by hand anything ive ever ate there is brilliant.

I lived in Japan 10 years back, and just came back from a trip to Japan and China last year. I can confirm this to be partially true; Foreign American chain stores are really clean and have great ingredients. But the selection might confuse you, such as China KFC serving a fantastic hamburger or Japan's McDonald's serving Arby fries.

That being said, they have their own chain fast food stores there as well, and well, they kind of have the same issue as fast food in America. Dom Dom in japan springs to mind as one of the most questionable, and not clean fast food I ever grabbed in Japan, and there were tons of dusty 'fast food' pork bowl shops in China that made me question if I was brave enough to eat in there.

So, it's more like american businesses try to make themselves better overseas, because they know the locals expect good things from them. But in America, they just don't give a damn and let the quality fall through the roof. I'm sick of it to be honest.

Why in the hell have food prices jumped up so much? It honestly does not add up, even taking into account for inflation.

I know that Japan and Europe are more strict on food quality, but I'm not sure about other parts of the world.

I'm sure it depends on where you go, but I stopped into a few fast food chains when I was in Europe just to compare them. Some of them were more or less the same, some of them were noticeably nicer, although that might just be because they were in major city centers and not a truck stop in the middle of nowhere. The most amusing thing to me was how there were standalone McCafe's posing as regular coffee shops.

it's almost the same with me btw : ))
not too pricey but not too expensive. beside they serve decent and the promotional value are good for wallet. and also the food aesthetically not bad at all.
