Lord of the Rings comes first if anyone's interested, star wars fans were definetly owned
And let's be honest, trilogies at least in film are used so they can make more sequels and money, that's why despite liking them, I cannot consider the matrix as that good of a trilogy, even if the story is overall good, in the case of potc they were made with no resemblance to the theme park and with an original script, even if based on older pirate folklore, haven't watched the 4th one ever and haven't Seen the 5th in a long time, but it's pretty obvious they take the story nowere and are pretty much made just for the money rather than having a good story to tell.
With that said, i'm still waiting for potc 6 the same way db fans expect the ending of dbs, but that's gotta wait.

Lord of the Rings No.1
Pirates of the Caribbean No.2
The Matrix No.3. Fight me.
I would have argued Matrix wins out because all of the bloated pirate sequels Disney pumped out.
But man, Matrix Four was so horrifically disrespectfully unnecessary it makes the remainder of the Pirates film look like masterpieces.
There is no competition.
But I need to quickly head off the Star Wars Nerds:
Clerks beat you to the rant. And you're still wrong.
Cope, seethe, somehow Palpatine retuned, you should have appreciated the prequels more.
...
Actually no. I'm taking it back. The Evil Dead is No.3
The John Wick movies (which are 5 for 5 now)
The Guardians of the Galaxy movies
The Rurouni Kenshin live action movies
The Sonic movies
The whole Mission Impossible franchise
The Ip Man trilogy
Toy Story
Austin Powers
Evil Dead
The Dollars trilogy
Three Flavours Cornetto
Infernal affairs trilogy
There are five originals, then a remake from like 2010 or so, then apparently there's going to be one this year? But part 4 has nothing to do with the original story at all, and 5 doesn't really either but it's at least set during christmas time.
Is say the godfather trilogy?
back to the future?
the dark knight trilogy?
the vengance trilogy?
the dollar trilogy?
theres a shitload of GOOD trilogies, not only lotr, and to be completly honest - pirates of the carribean and star wars does not apply to this category, period.

I consider all of the star wars sextology to be good, perhaps empire strikes back as the best one, but still potc comes higher, even then I also enjoy the evil dead trilogy, although you know the 2nd is a remake, not a continuation...

>Sonic being a contender
>The mission impossible franchise
>John wick isn't even a trilogy
>Ignoring that gotg takes place in the mcu and isn't really autoconclusive.
wild how nobody mentioned spider-man (raimi), the best one for Superheroes, even the third one is kinda good, the same cannot be said for watts trilogy.
Also nobody mentions captain america...

The Sonic movies are the best video game movies ever made (made even more obvious when that shitty 2023 Mario movie came out) and have gotten better with each installment.
The Guardians movies wrap up every character arc in the third movie and require nearly no knowledge of the rest of the MCU movies to follow. They are absolutely conclusive.
I like the Captain America movies but the only one everyone remembers is Winter Soldier. The first one is decent but forgettable and the third one is basically an Avengers movie in disguise.
Spider-Man 3 was crap. The Amazing Spider-man was a better movie and if we want to talk trilogies the MCU Spider-Man trilogy is better because none of the three movies suck and No Way Home is arguably the best Spider-Man movie ever made.
John Wick has had five back to back great movies. It did the three movie trick and kept going and was still awesome. I could say the same for Mission Impossible
Also, I haven't watched them but I wonder if the Harry Potter movies should be in this discussion too.

Mario 2023 is on par with sonic 2 in terms of quality to be honest, and even then the mario movie has a better handled tone and comedy compared to the sonic movies, can't say I'm excited for the sequels, but let's be frank, professor layton and the eternal dive beats them up in terms of quality, also despite not being based on a pre-existing videogame: wreck-it ralph is easily the second best videogame movie.
Perhaps I misunderstood the guardians films, but still, if you aren't into that type of comedy and the spam of 80s nostalgia I cannot say they're really that much of a contender, good movies though.
So basically phase 1 and 2 of the mcu in a nutshell, not bad but not impressive, at least they didn't reach the point of being insufferable like in phase 3 - onwards (although I reccomend the doctor strange films the best for the visuals alone)
Spider-man 3 was a decent to good film and conclusion to the trilogy, it has problems like the butler scene or mismatch in tone on the bully maguire section, but the films still feels solidly made, entertaining and heartful, plus it does it's villains decently, because even if Eddie dosen't get the suit until the end dosen't mean he hasn't had a good build up and scenes as a villain, the take that's it's bad because he isn't venom until the last battle is dumb.
The amazing spider-man is a great film, tons of issues but still a movie worth watching and rewatching, pretty sad how the holland movies are treated better when most of the comedy is an unfunny pg 13 take on mid budget comedy movies + superhero stuff that isn't as well made as the previous movies (yes, even tasm2) and I've felt since i saw it in theaters that no way home was okay at best, got some good stuff but it gets overshadowed by the forced, badly writing comedy and scenes (strange's wish from peter)
As for the last 2: we are talking about trilogies or film series that work well as a single trilogy, if we push it I can say star wars is an overall good sextology but even then neither the og trilogy or prequels are really mind blowing, they're just good, well made films

I do agree as if not being made as a single trilogy, since star wars works as a sextology and potc got the 4th and 5th one, but since potc works so well as a single trilogy I could at least say it applies to a very certain degree.
Mario 2023 is not on the level of ANY Sonic movie. It disrespects its main characters by making Mario look like a loser and sidelining Luigi for the whole movie, all in the interest of boosting up Princess Peach into a perfect hero and Mary Sue because they were too afraid to present her as a damsel in distress like she is in the video games. FACTS. They also ruined the Kongs. Seth Rogen? Really?
Sonic movies have character development. The Mario movie has none. It's also has a rushed plot and a rushed pace. Oh, and then there's the shitty licensed music. Lastly, the lamest final battle ever with the Mario Bros. basically cheating to beat Bowser by using an invincibility star, which flies in the face of any actual Mario game.
The comedy sucks. Sonic movies actually have some genuinely funny bits, though I'll admit the secret agent romance side story in the second movie is lame. I literally can't remember one good comedy bit in the Mario movie, just cringe worthy crap with Seth Rogen.
There is nothing wrong with the tone. It's light hearted and silly but gets more serious during important character moments or high stakes situations. That's consistent in all three movies.
The Mario movie is trash. And Wreck it Ralph is not a video game movie. It's not based an any actual video game. It's just a movie about video games. Big difference.
And I don't count anime as making video game based anime is easy. Anime is easy mode. When people talk about successful video game movies they are talking about blockbuster international theatrical hits for a wide audience not niche anime releases.
