I hate how romanticised this is becoming so much. Even happens to random people as well, I don't ever want to end up a statistic for someone to brag about
My old next door neighbor would regularly get drunk and high and stay up all night singing loudly and arguing on the phone. I was in her apartment dealing with a stopped sink (I'm maintenance and the groundskeeper here) and found meth and a pipe. She started threatening to break into my apartment and shoot me in my sleep afterwards, so me and the owner had to evict her.

Video games are one of my few escapes, and even still, I'm about ready to go off living in an RV or even a van because, I've just been through enough already. Rent is expensive now, and it keeps going up! So then there's roommates, or neighbors, which, I could be here all day telling horror stories about this. It gets pretty bad. I think though, that I'd rather hear from other people, what are your experiences? I know I'm not the only one who ends up with the worst of them.
Right now, I'm trying to resist going off on someone. For a list of reasons, but currently, because he keeps going into the bathroom and blowing his nose in the sink. It was bad enough when he had a cold which I'm not trying to catch myself. It's disgusting, and extremely inconsiderate. I hear water running from the sink, nose blowing, water stops and he comes out. Even though there's toilet paper in there, you hear no toilet flushing, so there's no mistaking what I'm hearing. Should i say something? I have a hard time being... 'polite' about this sort of thing. But i can't stand it. nasty s***...
Tell me again why people live with roommates? If they can't afford an apartment, they should either keep living with their parents (or with another close relative) or move to a cheaper area.
What this has to do with politics? Many people don't do shit all day without being politicians.

From stories like that I hear all the time I'm glad we live in our own home instead of living an apartment. Even poor people live at their own homes. Most people who sold their homes and lands so they would get 1-2 apartments in return later regret it. Fortunately my grandfather was wise enough to not do that shit while most people in our neighborhood were selling their land/home to apartment buildings sharks.

Never heard of that archetype before. Also I'm pretty sure politicians have different kind of lifestyle, unless they're filthy leftist hippies. And most of them live in rich areas that "peasants" like us can't afford.

I tried the whole roommate thing when I was younger and I can't tolerate it. One woman lied on her room for rent advertisement by stating that she had a lot of inventory sitting in her house. I'm thinking "Ok, she has a store so no big deal." I go to check the place out and her place looks something like this:
The bedroom that I was renting was the only clean place in the house. At $400 dollars per month it wasn't worth it. That was my first time being introduced to hoarders.
Other roommates that I've had were flat out disgusting. Nose blowing in the sink and shower. Dirtying the toilet and not cleaning it. Not cleaning up after themselves. Hygiene was hit or miss. And they were incredibly nosy and needy, two traits that I absolutely cannot stand in people.
It's never good internalize things that bother you. Being honest and straightforward is the only way to deal with problematic roommates.
Thankfully I found a job that keeps me way busy (TOO busy most of the time) to keep things affordable.

MY GOD! Places like these make the cursed dirty 4chan rooms look clean in comparison. The fucked up part is that there are even rich people who live like that.

400 dollars per month just for a room? Jesus Christ, were you living in an expensive area or something? Or is American economy THAT fucked up? Unless you live in Australia or something.

I was going to name drop a celebrity but I'll keep it subtle. Super attractive woman who starred in a movie with a well known rapper in the early 2000's but she was a huge hoarder. It broke my younger heart at the time. ? And the $400 dollar per month room spectacle was back in 2011 in California. People are demanding way more for room rentals now. I'm currently enjoying peace and quiet living on my own in a decent, privately owned apartment. No roommates and nothing too crazy. But if the owner wakes up one day and decides to sell his building to yet another the greedy property management company then I'm leaving the state for good.
I used to eat prepackaged meals like the macaroni cups that you'd have to add water to and microwave. The cups were 100% disposable. I'd come home and see that the nutty hoarder woman would have things laying out on the counter top that I've thrown away in the outside trash with all of the other crap on the crowded, messy countertop. Hell, I could have used a hazmat suit! ??
The last time I lived in Seattle, there was a guy who I can only assume was a streamer playing with headphones on, but he would sit next to his window and randomly scream and it was also about video game stuff. Getting killed, you must be cheating, etc. But the courtyard of this complex was arranged in such a way that basically any sound would echo and carry, so everyone had to listen to him and there were times where it was like 3 am and he was doing it. I think he finally pissed off the wrong guy because it abruptly stopped. Either that or he moved, not sure.
Same complex, there was a dog that would bark for 12 hours nonstop. Not in an aggressive way, but in a kind of "hey don't leave me here alone" way. Another case where it would echo and people were leaving notes on the landlady's office door that were very nicely worded ways of being like, "what the fuck, lady?" So when I was arranging my exit date and whatnot when my lease expired, I asked about it. Apparently a woman had emigrated from Belarus to Seattle, and had a job as a bartender. So when she was home, no barking and it was fine, but she worked a lot. She had to go back home for some reason, and so at that point the dog would stay in the landlady's office during business hours, and with a neighbor at night. But then something happened I don't remember, and the dog wound up getting sent back to Belarus while the bartender moved somewhere else. We had quiet, but the poor dog, you know?
When I was in college, I knew this guy who was paying $100/month for a 50sqft apartment + private bathroom. He was this engineering grad student who had classes from 8AM to 8PM every day, weekends included, so he reasoned that he really just needed a space to keep his clothes and wash up occasionally. I once saw the inside of his living space, and it was just a single bed against a wall with all his belongings tucked underneath. The room's ceiling was slanted, so he didn't even have the benefit of full 3-D space.
This guy's lab provided meals, so he'd just eat there every day, and the small allowance he was given by the school was spent on vending machine snacks and laundromats for his three sets of clothing. After a while, he started raving about how he was being ripped off by his landlord and didn't need the space anyways, and eventually just moved all his things to a safety deposit box. He used free campus gym facilities to bathe, and slept in spare rooms in his lab or vacant areas in the multi-floor library.
When COVID hit, he simply used the extra credit he'd built up over the years to graduate immediately, then moved back in with his parents. I haven't heard from him since then, but there is no doubt in my mind that he's now a millionaire.
This is unfortunately the truth, except less gamecube. Where I'm living at right now, half the outlets don't work, and with the ones that do you need to listen to what other people are doing because they blow fuses. You'd think they would learn, but nope, they repeat the same thing then get mad like it's someone else's fault. We're supposed to sit around staring at the wall just in case they randomly decide to microwave something.
Well, the landlady here isn't all there either. For a while she kept getting drunk, then blasting her music full blast, 7am to 4am. So i brought it up. Her solution? She put a door mat at the bottom of the steps, and a little wooden shelf against the wall. Instant soundproofing, she thought. Not at all. Our cars have also suffered damage from her. She doesn't say anything before mowing the grass, she just blows everything right on your car, bumps the mower against it. Then she takes the weed-wacker out, on to the dirt driveway. Because there's a little blade of grass that comes up she tries to get every single one. Rocks shooting everywhere, and when i attempted to point out some of the damage to my car, she stood about 30 feet away telling me "i don't see anything"... oh then her lazy daughter sticks up for anything that she does.
Seriously, that's just some of the nightmare I've had to live with. It gets worse. So, this why, I'm just not doing it anymore. I'm getting an RV or something. No more getting stuck with crazy ladlords or neighbors, if i don't like something, i drive off somewhere else.
