Liquid Swords, the NetEase-backed studio formed by ex-Avalanche Studios co-founder Christofer Sundberg, has shown a brief teaser of its first game.
"Hope moved out. Violence pays the rent. Get comfortable,” the accompanying cryptic message reads, along with the hashtag #Game1.

Although the video doesn’t give much away, it does further cement the studio’s previous claim that the game will be “a hard-boiled take on the open-world crime genre”, building off Sundberg’s experience as co-founder of the studio behind the open-world Just Cause series.

I hope it actually retains that serious tone the trailer seems to suggest since we don't get a lot of games that play it straight and take themselves seriously anymore. It's like the AAA gaming industry has "Saints Row-ified" themselves.

It would be fun if the trailers were all like this, and then the game is about a pacifist mailman who has to deliver the mail on time in a crime-ridden town or something.

It would need more than mail delivery. I wanted to like Lake but it grew old real quick despite it being short.

I hope that the game will have the following :
-Good amount of side activities that take advantage of the open world
-Pedestrians, enemy gangs and police response that react to the player's actions or possibly even a fame / "respect" system
-Good physics (vehicles and ragdolls) , destruction and feedback on gunplay
-Ways to "run a business" or some form of criminal enterprise management

Not much information to go on as of currently, but I liked a lot of the Just Cause games.

Sounds good so far. I hope they actually add good side content with variety and fun. Just Cause 3 was fun for a bit but then got boring/repetitive for me. The only open-world crime games that I've played that got the formula very right were Sleeping Dogs (PEAK) and Mafia II. Not even base single-player GTA V was fun after the story. There was almost nothing to do. Everything felt dead right after.

100% agree with this!!

NetEase likes to abandon projects and studios, expectations are low as always.

It would be nice if you could actually own and keep the vehicles you've got, the way Mafia and Saints Row did it. Upgrade them, repair them if you total them, grab them from any garage you won and/or have them delivered to you if need be. GTA got the whole tuning part right in SA and 5 yet they never bothered to allow you to keep your cars. Then why bother putting resources in customisation if one wrong move and you lose the damn thing you just customized, regardless of whether you crashed it or submerged it in deeper than knee high water, or just walked away far enough for it to despawn all on its own. At least 4 had easy way to cheat spawn specific vehicles so you could at the very least play pretend at having your own.
