I used the name 'Super Famicom' as a personal preference, but in reality all titles from any continent are fine.

The rules to follow are just these 3.

2fRGtuK.gif

01) Do not use text only, but always share images. Take your pick among covers, screenshots, ads or all 3. If you want to go further by attaching video or sound clips as well, even better for everyone.

02) Choose to talk about what really engaged you and in the way you prefer, rather than what the ears of the majority of the surviving audience today would like to hear.

03) Never talk about these 25 titles unless it is to make a comparison/citation.

01. 21 November 1990) Super Mario World
02. 5 August 1995) Super Mario World 2, Yoshi's Island
03. 27 August 1992) Super Mario Kart
04. 14 July 1992) Mario Paint
05. 14 July 1993) Super Mario All Stars

06. 9 March 1996) Super Mario RPG
07. 21 December 1990) Final Fight
08. 21 December 1990) Pilotwings
09. 21 November 1990) F-Zero
10. 4 October 1991) Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts

11. 21 October 1994) Demon's Crest
12. 31 October 1991) Super Castlevania IV
13. 21 November 1991) The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past
14. 28 February 1992) Contra Spirits|Contra III, The Aliens Wars
15. 10 June 1992|11 July 1993|25 June 1994) Any version of Street Fighter II

16. 21 February 1993) Star Fox
17. 6 August 1993) Secret of Mana
18. 13 September 1993) Mortal Kombat
19. 9 September 1994) Mortal Kombat II
20. 13 October 1995 and 11 October 1996) Mortal Kombat 3 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

21. 19 March 1994) Super Metroid
22. 18 November 1994) Donkey Kong Country
23. 21 November 1995) Donkey Kong Country 2, Diddy's Kong Quest
24. 1 November 1996) Donkey Kong Country 3, Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
25. August 1995) Killer Instinct

The Super Famicom will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 4 years and this platform saw the publication of nearly 2000 games, but for how much longer do we have to hear about the continuous idealization of only these 25?

A really neat hidden gem despite how challenging it could get sometimes. I love the soundtrack and the rope mechanic is absurdly realistic for a 16-bits game. I also like the digitized pictures in the background.

I could've talked about Kirby's Dream Land 3 or Fushigi no Dungeon Furai no Shiren (aka Mystery Dungeon Shiren the Wanderer in the west) but I had it in mind first.

Kind of a mess up that the “don’t talk about” list doesn’t include any heavy hitters from Square aside from Mana lmao
This thread will fill up with classic JRPG love instantly, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

That, and Mega Man. I have no idea how X1 at least wasn’t included in the list, though perhaps it’s because of the heavy policing of “anything MegaMan MUST go in the Mega-Thread”.

As for looking for new games that you may never have heard of: when in doubt, you go SNESDrunk. He’ll get you set up nice and quickly. The library of the SNES is quite fully featured and has tons of games that stand out.

As an example: the single greatest home port of Parodius Da!
I’d even say it eclipses the Saturn and PS1 version, quite frankly!

PLEASE TALK ABOUT DREAM LAND 3! I also love that game and I wouldn’t mind to talk more about it!

Such a charming game and a rare example of deliberately having a strong artstyle back in the day, choosing to go for the crayon aesthetic. It basically brings all the fun of Dream Land 2 onto the Super Famicom! Now with more cats, octopi, and cleaning.

I always wonder why people forget Rockman x series in the super famicom, for me it was a great trilogy of games, and it was the start catalyst for my passion in robotics-mecha style themes.

I wanted to mention a certain game, but I do not want to sound like a broken record on this forum, so I will just say Aladdin. It is a charming game with nice physics and presentation. The Capcom style works well with Disney. It is not very difficult, but it remains enjoyable all the way to the end.

Kirby not being on the list is kinda crazy. Kirby Super Star and Dream Land 3 are easily in the top 10 SNES games for me. Dream Course is a lot of fun too.
Super Star literally changed the way I thought about platformers, and what I found fun in video games. I've been dying for a full-length game that plays like The Great Cave Offensive for my whole life.
I always felt like Dream Land 3 nailed the cozy crayon vibes better than Yoshi's Island, which isn't too surprising considering it came out 2 years after Yoshi's Island, but damn!!!! Look how pretty this game is!!!! Yoshi's Island didn't have a funny fish companion either. 2-0 Dream Land 3.

Plok is cool too. The game itself isn't as good as Nintendo's platformers, and the camera holds the game back super hard for me, but that soundtrack is insane. Something, something, Plok inspired Yoshi's Island, bla bla bla.

Pocky and Rocky always felt a little overlooked to me, despite a lot of people knowing about it.

Does Smash TV count, even though it's an arcade port?

Uhhh......... Phalanx?

Final Fantasy IV is a game I appreciate more than it would seem if you heard me talk about it casually.
Its a game i care about more for the nostalgia factor than anything else. Its a great and really fun RPG don't get me wrong. I just find the complexities of the next two to make them better experiences, plus, the story of this one isn't the best.

As for Final Fantasy V??? The job system is INCREDIBLE. Grinding job proficiency, mixing and matching skills, trying out new jobs, the list of many many bosses that kept me on my toes i really cannot stress how fun it all was.
1768333230591.png

And as for VI....... well....... I played it in a really depressive part of my life. Where it felt like nothing really mattered. For a long time it felt that a video game could not actually make me feel real emotions besides joy and perhaps annoyance. When I played this game, things were different. I felt for all the characters. I was invested in the narrative. The game had this way of charming me by its story beats and interactions that I cannot put into words. And ultimately, When
the warring triad was broken, the world fell into utter annihilation at the hands of Kefka, to where you could see continents being ripped apart from space... it broke me.

But the fact that even after everything. After we did give up hope for a time. We still managed to find a way to
find our friends, grow strong, find new meaning in the broken world of ruin, and destroy Kefka.
It touched my soul in the most transcendent way possible. And I'll never ever forget it. To me, it's the closest thing to a perfect game. It isn't my absolute favorite, though. Surely someone will talk about that game here

Did i see a FFv spoiler ?

Axelay is the best shoot 'em up and one of the best games on the Super Famicom. It's simply one of the best shoot 'em ups of all time, with the best and most memorable music. If you disagree, I'll twist your arm mentally.

The SNES version of DOOM, even if it's not the best version—less playable, less fluid—is still an excellent game. If you disagree, I'll mentally chop your arms off.

Hagane is superb but brutal.

Magical Quest and Tiny Toons Adventures: Buster Busts Loose are superb and accessible to players of average ability.

Bastard!! is superb, mediocre, difficult, and repetitive. One of the biggest disappointments of my gaming life.

Skyblazer is too often forgotten despite having been quite successful at the time and remains one of the best action platformers on SNES.

I really like that one but I haven't thought of it for this thread. They've made a boat sinking game as well.

I love the soundtrack and how arcade like the game is (almost like a precursor to Burning Rangers).

I'll raise with an Hyper Zone by HAL

I ACTUALLY OWNED THAT! Never gave it much love when I actually owned it. Perhaps it shines more in emulation though?
