Info from the readme:

This is a translation patch for Tales of Phantasia (幻想传说, Huan Xiang Chuan Shuo) on Famiclone devices. There is also a game titled 魔幻世界 (Fantasy World) which is just a title screen swap. This translation patch only targets the Tales of Phantasia version.

In case it wasn't obvious, this game is terrible. Sometimes incorrect dialogue lines are displayed, bizarre palette choices were made, and the game balance is atrocious. To be perfectly clear, this is a translation patch. The game is littered with problems, but make sure to report issues that are wrong with the translation patch and not the game.

There is an optional easy mode patch where it starts all your party members at level 99 and decreases the encounter rate, but even then, the game is still kind of difficult. Make sure to apply the patch after applying the translation patch.

Anyway, I wouldn't say I hope you enjoy the game, but I hope you can laugh at how terrible it is. This game definitely didn't deserve the work put into it. This translation project has more work put into it than most projects for actually good games.

Cheats:

Enclosed with this translation is a `cheats.txt` file. This contains notable cheat codes and ROM addresses to change to make the game more playable. Additionally, I've included a MESEN Lua script that allows you to see enemy health.

Bootlegs like this are always fascinating to me, because a lot of times they include sprites from various sources with a complete disregard to any artistic cohesion. For example, I looked up some gameplay footage and the first random encounter is a zombie and... some guy. What, are they working together or something?
