Switch Switch’s Virtual Boy add-on reminded me that Nintendo’s biggest flop wasn't all bad!

So, I'm not familiar with everything that's available in the gaming world. But when I look at this I wonder what on earth that's supposed to be. A VR from Nintendo🤷‍♂️no idea. And the other question would be, do you need something like that?

The VB was a commercial failure that used a technology too soon to be properly implemented (and was wrongly marketed as a handheld successor to the GameBoy) yet in '95 when you see the fate of the 3DO, Atari Jaguar and the Philips CD-I it's not the worst outcome.

Okay, well, it's probably a matter of taste. I'm sure it will find a few buyers.

The Virtual Boy was also known to give people massive headaches after a few minutes of play due to eye strain.

O Virtual Boy também era conhecido por causar fortes dores de cabeça em algumas pessoas após poucos minutos de uso, devido ao cansaço visual.
Also, if it's not too much trouble, mention that the color red was cheaper to buy at the time, and the black thing doesn't help because it means the colors were turned off to save money.

Yeah, guess what? With the current one on NSO you won't have any of that. I managed to beat again VB Wario Land, The Mansion of Innsmouth and Red Alarm and I feel more than fine. And don't worry, I don't doubt that the original real thing was godawful as everyone knows.
As said in another thread, Nintendo really did a miracle with this: making a flopped console actually good. Even if it has a scarce library with two actual good games and the rest being mediocre to average at best.

I've read it was because it made you use muscles you usually don't use too much.

Like stretching hard.

Headache oh great, Nintendo has really produced something stupid there. But well, Nintendo is known for coming up with things like this every now and then.

Owned one of the original ones. Eyestrain and headache problems were exaggerated, but its abysmal ergonomics, weren't. The controller was pretty good (for the era), but finding a play space to lean into it and play the machine in a comfortable manner was all but impossible. And, that's probably why it failed more than anything else.

Well, if the device causes health problems, then it's doomed to fail. I can still remember the beginning when the 3DS came onto the market. I couldn't use the 3D function because my eyes couldn't handle it.I have no idea what Nintendo did wrong again, but it wasn't good. And I wasn't the only one who had these problems.

I am wondering why they haven't put some sort of elastic strap around the headset.

The Nintendo 3DS was still a good console outside of its 3D gimmick (as a proof there was the 2DS and its new XL variant that came out).

The handheld console was brilliant in my opinion. The 3D function was a brilliant idea from Nintendo. But yeah, my eyes just didn't cooperate as I'd hoped. But don't get me wrong, the device was a hit. I already had a 3DS, but I just didn't use the 3D function. I had so much fun with the 3DS!

The red color was the cheapest to buy at the time.
