Switch 2 Has Received Its Killer App

Is this content vile? Yes. I'd never play any of it because I'm not a degenerate pervert. That said, I'd rather have degenerate pervert games on the platform than allow credit card companies to be the censors. If they'll censor offensive adult games, or games that have Hitler in them (No, I don't like Hitler, or Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc.), why wouldn't they censor first-person shooters where you're shooting a bunch of NPC's? It's like Terrifier or Saw to me. I find those films disgusting, however I don't want them censored. They're just too much for me, and I like horror movies.

This is a slippery slope.
Isn't the slippery slope a fallacy? While I think that 'dolf, Joseph, Mao and other dictators are fine in purely historical video games (like a WWII RTS/Grand Strategy game) I think that a game actually condoning/encouraging their view wouldn't be allowed on any mainstream platforms.

Toxic work environment, especially back in the 90s. Also milks one franchise over all their other franchises. Also sometimes sells rushed and unfinished games (Sonic 06, Sonic Colors Ultimate etc.), extremely cocky and egotistical (they try to compete with various companies constantly), and they also like stealing ideas from other games and put them in some of their games.
And Sega acting like that cool kid trying too hard to lower their competitors (like Genesis Does What Nintendon't) was also part of their demise whereas Nintendo did better than them without trying.

Sonic Team is responsible for all the bad Sonic games. As for stealing ideas for games, Namco did that to Sega all the time.
And the devs behind Sonic Boom as well as Dimps for Sonic 4.

Namco doing that doesn't matter, two wrongs don't make one right.

I love watching people in Nintendo threads learn about unregulated capitalism like they're five-year-olds.
Then you also have the polar opposite about overly regulated companies where making one would put too much strain of you and you will barely get anything from hard work.

From what I saw from the trailers, it looked like a spiritual successor to Super Mario Odyssey. I was expecting 8 or 8.5/10. Maybe not 9 but I'm not that surprise
If a formula works why doing differently? If it ain't broke don't try fixing it.

To be honest it has been the same since Mario 64.

Taxes over taxes isn't really unregulated, it's "over-regulated".

But we're digressing a bit there.

Bananza may not be as great as DKC but I'm pretty glad to see a 3D DK game, just hope that we'll still see a third RetroStudio DKC game after Prime 4.

You want Mastercard and Visa to be the arbiters of what's okay on Steam?

Considering the path this thread took, I decided to make a thread about the game itself: https://retrogametalk.com/threads/donkey-kong-bananza-thread.12313/
Thank you.

Yes, because Sony and Microsoft have always been so pro-consumer. And the industry isn't wholesale eating itself because of venture capitalists in general. Nintendo sucks and is absolutely anti-consumer, but don't pretend like all of these companies are any different. They all just want all of your money and time. Do you use Amazon? Google products? Shop at Wal-Mart or any other major big box store? By your own logic you have no self-respect for yourself and are destroying those industries by giving them money as well.
Whatever bro.
F*ck Nintendo. Anyone that supports this anti-consumer company has no self-respect and is helping destroy this industry.
Well maybe if didn't constantly pirated their newer stuff things would be better. Instead we have people like you who bitched just to spread hate when it doesn't solve anything. You're part of the problem.

To be honest I don't get that, if someone really despised them, they wouldn't even want to play their game, pirated or not.

It's like claiming you hate a bakery yet still want to eat their bread and croissants.

When you said killer am I taught it was a new AP that brick your Switch 2 as soon as you start it so Nintendo them self don´t have to. Soon they gonna sell you a dead Switch 2 right out of the box for 1000 dollars.

I mean does bloody idiots banned a dude for buying a pre-owned copies of a switch 1 games. Yes, seriously. The user was flagged when trying to download a patch — and Nintendo assumed it was piracy.
Yes he did get un-banned but honestly Nintendo should eat shit and go bankrupt.
You seem to be very susceptible to rage-bait.

A killer app is something that everyone wants to own the hardware for.
Most people don't give a damn about donkey kong, donkey kong country was a supposed killer app, most people didn't buy a snes for that either.

EDIT: nintendo's killer apps are zelda and smash bros, neither of which are here at launch and exclusive, metroid prime 4 "might" be one for some, but that's also gonna be on the switch 1.

Because everyone has already bought one for the previous games, not a late life game.

Nintendo probably made MK World the killer app since it's a more open party game.

You're blowing things waaay out of proportion dude.
Calm down. If you don't like how they run their company, feel free not to buy their stuff. But they aren't doing anything unethical and you really shouldn't go around putting people down for liking their products.

While I agree with your overall point that hating people who buy a Nintendo product because they like their games is a bit absurd, I disagree that they aren't doing anything unethical. Banning people from playing online would be one thing, bricking peoples' consoles from updating or downloading anything at a hardware level is very definitely breaking consumer protection and ewaste laws in various countries because it is, in fact, extremely unethical to intentionally destroy something you sold to a customer.

I hope that France investigation actually leads to a lawsuit because the Brazilian one probably isn't going to be enough to change things.

My understanding is that the whole "brick your console" thing was not really true and just a hypothetical that "the internet" latched onto and spread out of proportion (as they do).
If they ARE actually bricking people's hardware remotely then yeah I agree with you completely.

I've been enjoying the game a lot since it's release.
Its been a while since I've played a game where I notice that I've been grinning 🙂

And then I jump on this thread to read peoples opinions on the game and see the usual unrelated vitriol from non-switch owners 🤷‍♂️

Silly you. Don't you know that enjoying things is not allowed anymore? /s

Donkey Kong isn't exactly a high demand IP for Nintendo.
I'd say that right now it is. This game seems to be doing pretty well commercially and critically.

Mario Kart World sold like crazy but fans were divided on it. Also it's just more Mario Kart. The DK game on the other hand is pretty unique and people are going crazy over it, including the more hardcore nintendo fans. Sure, they don't represent the entire demographic, but they are the loudest ones, and that's free marketing.

At least it's a killer app for me. It's the only thing that made me want to have a Switch 2 so far. So if it managed to reach me, it should apply to more people as well.

Mario kart world is not a fair comparison, it was a pack-in game for most people.
As for DK bananza, it's the only game except MKW worth having a switch 2 for, which is why i don't call it a killer app.

I remember back when the ps3 launched a mobile suit gundam game launched with the ps3 along with a few games and sold well, even though the game was notoriously bad.

On a side note I'd still argue that if people modded their consoles to play pirated games or cheat online they kinda were the reason why they would remotely lock a console out of online.

I heard that if you've bought a Switch game second hand if the game's ID is the same as another's (because he may have had duplicated it) your console could get online banned which is imo worse since it affects people that didn't tinker with their console.

Like Wii Sport?

People waited a decade for a new original DK game and 20 years for a 3D one.

We know what the killer app for the Switch 2 will eventually be. And it will be so easy for them. A brand new Pokemon game.

The problem with the second hand switch game is we have to trust nintendo to be telling the truth here, it's just as possible nintendo logged a cart to a specific account and then the banned user logged in with the game on theirs, with nintendo claiming it was a dupe cart and restore the user's account after seeing the massive backlash.
Personally i do NOT believe nintendo's lying here because even nintendo would have to see the freight train of lawsuits that could cause, but the fact i could actually see nintendo doing something like that is proof what little good will the company had is probably gone with alot of people like myself.

As for wii sports, wii sports was the perfect game to pack in to the wii, tbh "pack-in" wasn't the right word to use for MKW but let's not kid ourselves, most people bought the bundle to save money in their minds buying the game for 50$ instead of 80/90$.
If i'm being honest, while i don't think DK bananza is a "killer app", i think it would have been a better pack-in game for the switch 2, it's a platformer which has the biggest grouping of nintendo fans and slowdown aside, it seems to be a far more polished game than MKW, which from what i've heard needed time in the oven, and while MKW might be a killer app for nintendo fans, outside of nintendo fans it's....ok i guess hype wise?
I think more non-nintendo fans are hyped for sonic racing crossroads than mario kart worlds myself, but overalli think DKB was the better game to release the console with to get both their fanbase and outsiders interested, even if it isn't a killer app imo.

Pokemon can do it to a extent, but i still say a new zelda or smash bros would probably do more than pokemon as a killer app to get people to buy the console.

It’ll happen no doubt. S&S sold 40 million and even Nintendo wasn’t expecting it, they were banking on the 3ds as backup. Once Z-A releases, Nintendo/GF/TPC will all have more money than they know what to do with (quite literally, according to one report)
