It's certainly a broken game, I'll tell you this much. Vega is paying for the sins he commited in Super Turbo so now he's F tier everywhere he goes, LMAO. Which is funny because the charge characters SHOULD be strong due to 30F charges (Guile sure is), but the charge bug SVC has prevents them from that. Well that, and the top tiers existing.I really want to like this game, but I always felt it needed a bit of fine tuning. The gameplay just feels off, especially certain Capcom characters like Vega (claw).
Playing competitively isn't really my jam so I don't have any cool anecdotes to share, but it is funny how this game has both excellent (the dialogues) and terrible (the area names) translations all at once.
Haha that's true! I had no idea the charge bug was a thing, and I have to wonder if there's a fix out there. In the game's defense, I think the graphics are top notch, I just wish the backgrounds were a bit less generic (I understand you have to save memory with so many characters in tow, though.)It's certainly a broken game, I'll tell you this much. The dialogue is classic SNK Engrish, save for a few exceptions.
I'm certain the console versions fixed the charge bug, even though I already learned my way around it at this point.Haha that's true! I think you're right, there's a whole "impending disaster" feeling going on with the game, probably on purpose. I guess if I had the memory to spare I'd try for reproductions of memorable locales for the franchises involved, but keeping with the game's overall tone of a more grounded approach.I'm certain the console versions fixed the charge bug, even though I already learned my way around it at this point.
The graphics look pretty good for the time, save some funny looking frames in some character's jumping kicks (seriously, Demitri's air normals are hilarious).
I didn't mind the backgrounds so much, though I see where people's complaints come from. This game went the opposite route of CVS where the backgrounds are lively and crowded and feels like a big fun tournament going on. The SVC backgrounds are more lifeless and... ominous? In a "shit's going down" kind of way? xD I like it because it reminds me of Kizuna Encounter's backgrounds, which have a similar vibe. That being said, I wish there was more of them. Maybe some slum town or an abandoned city or something like that.
But we can all agree on one thing: Guardian-Dogs Temple looks AMAZING.
That's actually a cool idea, something CVS1 did iirc. (the street stage in Alpha 1 now shows across it in CVS1, that kind of thing). Like, maybe have something similar to KOF 94's Japan stage but now it's all abandoned, possibly in ruins, but seeing as every game has a new set of stages, I can see that as being a little hard to do.I think you're right, there's a whole "impending disaster" feeling going on with the game, probably on purpose. 100% agreed on the Guardian Dog's Temple, for sure!
Totally agree with you on that one. It wouldn't be so bad if the AI wasn't a total twat, but it is. If Orochi Iori shows up, pray for a miracle, that guy sucks. The game is okay and I'll give it credit for including some characters that you wouldn't normally see when it comes to crossover fighting games (Earthquake, Choi, Hugo, Tessa), but one thing that I don't like is that you have to play perfectly and not use a continue or else you get a bad ending. The same thing goes if you get to one of the secret final bosses (Athena and Red Arremer/Firebrand) and that you have to win the match or else you get the same bad ending as well.
It's on par with SNK there. You have absurd levels of input read/priority alongside some laughably bad, easily exploitable patterns like Goenitz's.Totally agree with you on that one. Yeah Goenitz and Demitri are annoying but if you pick Violent Ken, they're screwed, lol. It's on par with SNK there. You have absurd levels of input read/priority alongside some laughably bad, easily exploitable patterns like Goenitz's.
It's SNK vs Capcom in this case. The order matters because it's SNK's take on the mashup, not the opposite, so it's a very different beast. They made a Capcom vs SNK after CvS2?! How have I not heard of this?!?!
Maybe even more unbeatable than Orochi Iori, which, I guess, would have the opposite effect of ingratiating him to the playerbase, haha.If it was around DMC1's existence, sure. DMC2 though? I'm not so sure, LMAO.
Odds are he would be a mid-boss due to how out of place he looks next to the other characters.
As MVC3 showed us, that's more than likely what would happen, lol.Maybe even more unbeatable than Orochi Iori, which, I guess, would have the opposite effect of ingratiating him to the playerbase, haha.
Didn't really care for Zero at the time but hey, an appearance is an appearance.I don’t really like the game but I kinda appreciate that is has a bizarrely depressing vibe and muted color scheme for a fighting game. Also MMZ era zero
That's true, Hugo looks strange!Seems to be the case with a couple characters, Hugo looks kinda funny at times as well. But it doesn't seem to be the majority as far as I can recall.

Also gotta respect the balls in this game to make BISON of all people one of the worst characters, LMAO.
At face value it's pretty much SF2 Bison, but he's so stubby and unsafe it's almost tragic, barely any combos, Psycho Crusher is pretty much death on neutral. He can loop people to death if he hits a the Psycho Crusher super against someone airborne, but easier said than done. That's true, Hugo looks strange!
as for Bison being terrible, I'm surprised to hear, his moveset seems similar to the SF2 one to me.
I guess I never looked at Bison too closely, but Genjuro feels really weird across the board, I guess it's the hitstop on h8s attacks, it feels too different from Samsho's.At face value it's pretty much SF2 Bison, but he's so stubby and unsafe it's almost tragic, barely any combos, Psycho Crusher is pretty much death on neutral. And his exceed, while not THE worst (that honor goes to Genjuro), is very limited in its use.
