I'll throw another one into the mix, since I just re-watched it a couple days ago: Synecdoche, New York.
Starts off fairly tame and theatrical and then slowly grows in scope and complexity. Quite appropriate, given the plot and subject matter. Fantastic performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman, too.
Since it's a Charlie Kaufman film - Being John Malkovich might be another one to check out. Both are quite a bit tamer than most other suggestions so far though.
Stalker, Solaris and The Sacrifice by Tarkovsky
That Obscure Object of Desire by Bunuel
The Double Life of Veronique by Kieslowski
I don't know if they fit the bill but they are good.
Michelangelo Antonioni movies, like Blowup, Zabtriskie point and The passenger.
The German expressionist(silent movie) The cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
La Maison en petits cubes(animated).

Idk about stalker cuz most of the supernatural stuff that happened seemed implied except for the last scene. I'll definitely check out The Sacrifice tbh as well as That Obscure Object of Desire cuz I've only watch Un Chien Andalou by Buñuel
Watch Zigeunerweisen, Kagerzo-za and Yumeji, otherwise known as TAISHO Trilogy. You can try it out here if you are okay with "only" DVD quality https://archive.org/details/seijun-suzuki-tsigoineruwaizen-1980 minor knowledge in japanese history and spiritualism will help you understand it easier, but if you watched some animes and red some mangos, you should be okay.

enjoyed Branded to Kill which is also by Suzuki who made the Taisho trilogy.
I think I've watched Pistol Opera on youtube but I could only find it with no english sub tho .
Neat. Yeah, he has some great gangster movies prior to being allowed to expand into more artsy territory, but hints of that could already be seen.
On another note, check out De Vierde Man (4th Man) by Paul Verhoeven if you havent. Mood-wise i'd say its a good afternoon type of movie, maybe on a lazy sunday.
Yes, I know a little German, he's sitting over there.

Just to merge again, coz the edit button is missing, "Dead man's shoes" is worth a watch and may not be known in a lot of places. Low budget but very well done.

Some fairly dark shheeeit in here. I couldn't watch the majority of these. I enjoyed David Lynch's stuff for the weird comical stuff to ease the tension but some of these... not good for the psyche.
Just my opinion.

Your list would be tame enough on the meter, so far. I put up a pretty dark one myself. There's definitely a pull depending where you are in life. A dangerous pull, if pulled too deep. IMO.
