I've been going through Lynch and Jodorowsky movies, so is there any other surreal movies that I haven't heard of?

Brazil

There are people who consider it the best movie ever made. Regardless, it's worth a watch. It's a dystopian black comedy about a cog in the machine office worker trying to find the woman he keeps dreaming of.

If you don't mind extremely slow burns try Monument. The atmosphere is dark and unsettling. I might watch it again because once you realise what is going on you may find references you missed.

Brazil's ending was pretty depressing but at least the main character seemed happy I think.

Surprisingly, I haven't watched altered states although I've heard of it before in other forums.

Assuming you've got the stomach for some good old trashy exploitation filmmaking, Freeway 2: Confessions of a Trickbaby (yes) is one of my all-time favourites.

Still got my old bootleg copy from some yard sale ages ago - complete with the title scribbled on the disc with a marker. The way all mostly forgotten, bizarre films should be preserved.

Direct to video, was it that bad to be preserved on a DVD-R bootleg?

If you like surreal, try some of the stop motion films of Jan Svankmajer, there is also some movies in that style that i saw some time ago, one is Mad God, other is Otesanek, a.k.a. Little Otik. Another good film is Dark city.

It's not really surreal but it is definately odd and messed up, but I would reccomend Trainspotting. its about drug addicts in Scotland. Super 90s. there are Playstations in the club scenes.

Dark City: Director's Cut is a good suggestion

Look for Jan Svankmajer's films like Lesson Faust and Alice or David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch. There's also a lot of interesting Eastern Europe films from the 70s like Valerie, Beauty and the Beast (Juraj Herz), Daisies, The Hourglass Sanatorium etc that have a surrealist style, but they feel less "aggressive" in general.
