This game is tough. It doesn't seem as polished as their (Sunsoft) Batman games.

Superman seems so delicate in this game. It's so unSuperman-like. No one seems to get a real Superman game that's really memorable.

There's this comic called Mann and Superman by Michael T. Gilbert. In this story, a down-and-out unemployed crook manages to magically switch bodies with Superman. Basically, Clark is relegated to taking all the consequences of the crook's mismanaged life and the crook takes all the glory of Superman's fame and powers. After some time, Clark in the crook's body, makes improvements, he gets a job and become a good father to the crook's son while the crook finds that everyone wants a piece of him. Even after doing a good deed, he messes it up by causing massive property damage and everyone hating him.

In the end, he finds being Superman is harder than he expected.

I think a good Superman game should be like that. He should be invulnerable but the game's difficulty would be focused on trying to be a moral paragon and doing things that would embody him as a symbol of hope and goodness.

"*Sob* Everybody expects Superman to be perfect 24 hours a day. Nobody's that good. Decisions! Decisions! All the time! I hate it" - from Mann and Superman.

Something like that.
I have it! One of the best Superman comics ever made, done by the unique creator of Mr.Monster. There's a LOTDK issue that is a good companion piece, about Batman and his evolution over the years:

Superman was never really that super. He was not very manly despite the muscles. The soundtrack to the movie probably drew people in.

Since I'm on a roll here, I got another one thats semi related and maybe close enough.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies on Sega Genesis.

Just learned about it yesterday and dont see it here but it's on the internet archive. FYI, I'm having so much fun finding these .

I played it and yeah...maybe some hacks are best not archived.

Absolutely! I hope the new movie inspires some good narrative driven game soon. From the existing ones, I like the famicom one made by Kemco.

This one is probably harder / more unfair than most Sunsoft games, though. Enough to kind of ruin it honestly, with really long segments without any healt restoratives , so I can see why someone would make that hack.
But BillyTime! Games made a romhack called Ultimate Superman which reduces the difficulty of the game and the level of damage taken by Superman and adds some improvements in the gameplay, Silver S Logos They are like health pickups SRAM support, etc. and by the way it is already available in the Repo.

That's Sunsoft for you. No matter how the game is, a Sunsoft soundtrack is gonna be a right banger.

This one looked like it should have been a Genesis launch title for how simple the graphics are, but I rented it a few times as a kid. Never actually beat it until I used an emulator with Game Genie support, but that's another thing Sunsoft games usually are: HARD.

Even if you decide not to play this game, I  STRONGLY urge you to listen to the soundtrack—especially Stages 4 & 5.
