N64 Super Mario 64 Thread

yeah but the backwards long jump is part of almost every Super Mario 64 speedrun.
That's why speedruns usually have various categories.

I find it both strange and fascinating how Mario 64 is one of the most speedran video game of all time (aside from Classic Doom and Super Metroid among) to the point where people are breaking the game in several ways, finding out that there are "parallel universes" within the game (which is impressive for an archaic 3D game from the 90's) as well as people having a borderline uncanny/creepypasta feel from the game (which gave birth to the whole "liminal space" and "backroom" trends) even if it was mostly from the fact it was a game with few NPCs because of technical limitations.

PS: this picture is not from the actual game either.

The limitations, not of the system but of the dev tools and the developers who made it, are what have kept it alive in many ways. It’s fun, no doubt, but those aesthetic attributes are what make it still stand out after all these years.

This magazine issue has a fun segment about the secret life of video game characters including a journal by Mario during Super Mario 64.

And this may be why Mario 64 will still be better than Galaxy or Odyssey.
