PC port with widescreen support, 60 frames per seconds, free camera, new models and textures, and unlockable Wario and Luigi to name a few, this is the best way to experience this classic. To access settings, pause the game and press R.

Just to confirm and clarify:
- This is not render96. This is sm64ex.
- This windows port of sm64ex works on the Deck with proton experimental. It has the models from render96 and some of the textures. It doesn't have all of them.
- I can't get the Render96 windows port (which is not on ⅭⅮR) to work on the Deck. That might need to be compiled in linux, or I might not be doing something right.
I can confirm that the Render96 script in Lutris (under Super Mario 64) works fine. You will need some compiler tools installed on Steam Deck in order to build it, though.

Wasn't it supposed to be Render 96? This is the name of graphic pack that mimics the SiliconGraphics' artstyle.

Also, it is even written on the banner.
Huh... you are correct... 🫢

Wont this work directly on the Deck? Just add the exe as non steam game and use proton experimental
That's what I usually do, but no. I can't get this one to work. Maybe it needs a dependency?

Oh, also, the filename sm64ex.7z seems to reference a different PC port. I think maybe you're using render96 textures in a Super Mario 64 Ex build instead of using them in a render96 build?

How the FUCK do I change whatever prebaked keybinds are in this shit? Pressing Z or R does NOTHING when paused.

Okay, so I tried it on my Steam Deck, and can confirm that it does indeed work very easily when I selected proton experimental in the game's properties menu. Runs perfect!

THANK YOU, you absolute LEGEND!!!
This is perfect for lazy bums like myself!!!

I just built this myself and can confirm that the reason the 2D improved assests don't show up is that they weren't enabled when it was compiled. No slight on Juiceala, theres lots of of options and easy to misconfigure.

If you want the improved 2D assests you'd have to build it yourself or Juiceala would have to re-upload
I followed a tutorial to build this and Sonic Adventure since I'm not much of a PC gamer and I'm out of the loop, but the tutorial did not mention any hi rez texture though this maybe a good thing because my laptop is below mid range, compiling this took about an hour on my device, but like you said you can get the higher rez version by building it yourself.

Fun police here - I can understand being irritated but I don't think there's a need to go that hard on the guy, @Darren

Alright?

Now, as far as the Steam Deck is concerned, as far as I know its guts are similar enough to a bog-standard PC that many people just call it a handheld PC. That's not really the issue though. This upload is designed to run on Windows and the Deck has some custom Linux running on it by default. So either try to install Windows on it or try a program like WINE.

Extra Fun Police over here. You don't need to install Windows or run it through WINE on the Steam Deck. You can just add it as a Non-Steam Program in Desktop Mode and then pick a Proton layer to run it, the most recent one should do.

Ok! Thanks for the answer!

Thank you for helping!
Maybe I'm stupid but I still can't get the hi-res text and 2d elements. All 3d is rendering fine with hi-re textures but 2d is still low-res as in screenshot. Is there an option I have missed?

You asked for a PC port. I gave you a PC port. You replied "I'm wanting to play this on the Deck though".
**Then why the fuck did you not say this the first time?**

I'm not poor, nor do I try and randomly flex on others online by acting like owning a $650 handheld is an indicator of wealth. But, if you want to play that game, I play everything on my 4K touchscreen laptop; since it lets me emulate more systems.
You were specifically asking for a Star Fox decomp/recomp for *months*, finally got it, don't even say thanks, and immediately grovel about compatibility with your handheld... fucking LOL

Speaking of stupid: How do you have a Steam Deck - yet, seemingly have no idea how to set up PC ports or get them running?

I've used this website for a long time, and you are the first person I've ever been annoyed by. Congratulations, ignorant Steam Dork user.
Buddy this isn't Reddit. Try acting like an adult. The Deck is a PC

The pause and press R confused me couldn't get that to work

Instead pause the game with start and press down the left stick, it should bring up "DYNOS MENU"

This assumes you're using a controller, if not 🤷‍♂️

You are correct, I forgot which menu and mixed the two, sorry about that, I will fix the description.
