left, right, left, right, down, up, down, up, a, b, start - during Capcom's title.
If successful, a special noise should sound (I think it's the noise that the circular Capcom collectible would make, when acquired, in games like 1942)

When SF was first released, for SNES, I bought it day one from a Toys R Us.
The manager handed me the print-out of a code that Capcom had sent them.
It unlocked the four bosses: Vega, Balrog, Bison & Sagat for play in both one and two player modes.

Does anyone else remember the code above?
I know it seems a lot like the 'Konami code' but isn't.

The only variation to the code may be 'up, down, up, down' instead of 'down, up, down, up' and 'b, a' instead of 'a, b'

I owned SF on snes and I don't remember any codes to unlock the bosses. I just did a quick search through gamefaqs and didn't see any codes like that listed for any of the versions of SF on the snes.

The closest one to your code is this one
Display Game Statistics: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Medium Punch, Light Punch(ONLY During Demo Fight!)
That displays the statistics for your current play session if you enter it during the demo fight.

I'm.... Not sure? ::sailor-embarrassed

I had both the SNES and Genesis versions. You are talking about the original SNES release and not Super Street Fighter 2, correct? GameFAQs does not have a boss code for the original release of that game. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist. But you'd think by now someone would have submitted it. Even the FAQs say that the bosses are not playable. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/snes/588700-street-fighter-ii/faqs/53221

I remember getting Special Champion Edition for Genesis for the sole purpose of playing as the bosses. It was a major selling point. Super Street Fighter 2 for SNES also had playable bosses. But I didn't have that one. Only the original.

I remember a code and the sound at the Capcom logo but IIRC it allowed player 1 and player 2 to choose the same character, such as Ken VS Ken.

Street Fighter 2 World Warrior on the SNES never had any method to unlock and play the four bosses, though I do remember lot's of false methods and rumors spread around on how to enable them, similar to all the old "Enable blood in SNES Mortal Kombat" rumors.

Those weird rumours really did persists for a long time, amongst others for many games back then, but one in particular is the only reason we have akuma, the Shen Long quote from Ryu specifically was assumed to be a character he was referring to by many fans.

The absolute insane amount of strange rumours back then was hilariously common.

It also doesn't help that to get that hadouken in Mega man X was very reminiscent of these silly long winded rumoured or odd unlocks for games back then, except that was actually real, probably to the horror of anyone that tried it.

The one I always remember was apparently there was a way to get a white yoshi in one of the ghost houses in Super Mario World. That one actually came from my mom. She was told by someone at her work. I remember we both tried to get this white yoshi and obviously it wasn't real. Though, I have seen one of those TAS ACE speed runs where they glitch a white yoshi into the game so I guess it technically was possible to get one.

Although the other one, with the bricks on the cover, looks familiar as well but not sure why I would've purchased both.
I take it the one with the bricks on the cover had the bosses unlocked by default?

Awhile later I bought 'The New Challengers' for the Genesis to take advantage of it's six-button gamepad.
