I wonder 🤔 do people still go to the cinema these days or do you prefer to stream everything ? Cinema has a long tradition but one observes that streaming is becoming more and more popular. I am someone I like both it is always a nice visit to the cinema but streaming a movie or video is also fine. What do you all think about this ?

There's a place for both, and a place for the third option, that being to buy a physical copy of the movie.

Cinema sometimes makes the movie better if you care to watch the movie on a huge screen. Some movies these days only have value by watching them via 3D technology. Some movies are better in the cinema because of audio technology and whatnot stuff properly used for the cinema experience that you can barely enjoy at home. For example when a monster screams your whole body should vibrate because of the sound!!! lol

However the actual fun of watching a movie in the cinema is watching with other people. For example watching Matrix movies in the cinema was a bad experience for me due to way people distract you, but it's very fun when you watch horror movies. Sometimes humorous aspect of movies is because of how the audience reacts to certain scenes. Thus it can make serious scenes more impactful.

In the end, streaming a movie and watching it alone only matters when the movie is "deep" that make you think, "wanna enjoy it without distraction" and/or it wouldn't be fun watching it with people.

Two multiplex theaters still exist in my city. One of them often shows niche feature films, often by up-and-coming filmmakers of somewhat all nationalities.
With my girlfriend we go there often and there is no shortage of opportunities to make excellent cinematic discoveries.
The charm of the film shown in the theater is unparalleled.

We go to the cinema when the whole family gets together, which is rare nowadays given we're oceans apart, with stream though, a definite pro is having the agency to watch what you want when you want. Still have it's drawbacks though, like rising prices and region locks. I know VPN negates that but still an addition to the bills. ::thinking

We went to see Dune II in IMAX and it was pretty sick. But it was also midly uncomfortable at some points. I plan on going to see any new movies I'm interested in theaters since checking that out.

I'm a really tall dude so like, even though we had ample space for a normal person, I didn't have enough leg room with the seat back and legs up. I also struggle with how loud the sound gets, it hurts my ears a lot. Same reason why I'm not a fan of fireworks or loud noises in general. But It's kinda worth it for the risk of movies releasing with cropped BluRay releases like they did with Dune II.

It's nice that something like this still exists.

Last movie I went to see was The Amateur, we were like 6 people in the theater. The couple behind us left in the middle of the movie and I don't blame them. We stayed cos we paid for it.
Then we go to IMDB and see people praising these movies as if they were gold.
My problem with cinemas is there's nothing worth watching to even go. But I like to go even if it's a ripoff.

I barely see any reason to even go to the cinema. I went two times in my whole life (it was to watch Hotel Transylvania first, forgot about the other one) and hated it. I'd rather torrent some movie and watch it at home lol

Yes, in recent years the quality of cinema has declined considerably and many films are not good but it's a nice change to go there.

Going to the movies is expensive these days, but I go when there's a film that I actually want to say inthe future that I watched it on cinema.

Once I made a sheet with all movies I watched on the big screen and it was about 150 in the past 15 years or so. Quite a nice number.

Sometimes me and my homies go to watch some movies just to make fun of them lol.

The last time we went to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. We expected to at least have fun as much as the first movie but in the end we made fun of the movie in any way possible lol. Sometimes the movie may be really bad but what's good is all the fun you have with your friends.

I haven't been to a movie theater since 1997. I saw The Lost World. Some time after that my old reliable one screen, $2 theater closed down. I never went to another one. I don't even know how to use a theater now. Do you still just buy a ticket at the window?

I can't afford going to the cinema (it's a rare treat saved for the kids' birthday parties), but I'm fundamentally against streaming, too.

When you "own" the Blockbuster, then the thrill is gone, the high stakes that came with making or breaking your weekend on a random guess that could either turn out amazing or appalling was what movies were all about... for me, at least.

Theaters still make pretty good money, but the shrunken window for home release and streaming is definitely training audiences to wait for the convenience. Older folks love going to the movies, but I wonder where it'll be in a generation, when the median age movie-goer is used to watching new releases on their phone.

The exhibitors themselves will probably look the same; an ever-shrinking consolidation of theaters to a market, with the establishments themselves doubling down on being general entertainment venues with food, drink, games and shopping.

I'm sorry for that Is going to the cinema so expensive in your country ?
But I also noticed here in Germany that they have raised the prices a lot but that also had its consequences because now fewer people go to the cinema.

Yeah. It's impossible for me.

Haven't been to the movies on my own since 2007.

Yes, you're right. I believe cinema is for young and old and it has something special about itself. I recently gave my mother a nice present with free tickets to a movie she was very happy about it. Yes, cinema is something special.

Yes, with us it is like this, you buy a ticket at the window or counter .

I think you still can but some exceptions may be valid depending on the place. However I just buy a ticket online -> they send a QR code. Then you go to the theatre and show the QR code like you are a special agent and they scan the QR code. After the validity is confirmed they open a secret passage for you that leads to the wonderful world of movies!!! lol

Buying a ticket online has a good advantage: Ability to choose where to sit. It's like buying plane ticket but theatre version lol. Overall thus it prevent you to bother too much just to watch a movie. You don't have to drop to the place too early. You just go and watch it. No need to American wrestle with people and miss the movie anymore just because of the line lolol.
