Hello all!

I haven't been on much, life just overtook me at some point

Anyway, that's besides the point. I have a problem and that is... running out of space on my shelves! I tried everything to fit them all in, turn them around, turn them down, up, left, right! But still no space, even after putting the books i don't read up in the attic...
So my question for you is, how do you store your books? And have you created more places/shelves to store your books?
I had the thought of building a bookshelf floating around my head for a long time, but i don't have any expertise in woodwork :p

Sorry if this tread sounds stupid! i sincerely apologize.. i don't know where else to ask!

The few bookshelves here are double rows of books we've been hoarding, making them impractical to use, so I just got all the pdf and epub I could get to recreate it virtually and Calibre server running on the seedbox, so that everyone on the LAN here can access them with a web browser app.

I recently picked up 4 new books only to find no space on my shelves... I've started stacking books on top of the row of books, it looks depressing... I should probably buy one of those book holders that are like... Metal or something? They go on either side of the books and hold them together. That way you can put books on shelves without walls on the sides.

Personally if you a tips.

NEVER BUILD A SHELF ABOVE YOUR HEAD.

As someone who were once got hit by Oxford English Dictionary straight to the face it ain't a warm feeling man.

That said, i can't give you any other tips other than "Make Space" if you running out of place to place your book.

If you're intending to actually try to learn woodworking to make a New Shelves, i'd say do try it, but be aware that it ain't easy.

And for the love of God be aware of your Book's Weight and the Strength of your Wood when you make it into a Shelf, so you don't get a Oxford to the face.

I personally see lack of space as an excuse to not further spend money, but that’s usually just me xD

You could always borrow this idea from The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles

I like the idea of having like a backup of my shelf in digital form! I might just do that in the near future, gotta get a proper e-reader though :p

I'm still doing that... I've still got top rows that i haven't filled! I think it looks good... makes the shelf feel more full, atleast to me lol

I think they make book holders out of wood as well! Maybe even plastic...

Eh, i still have a floor! Plenty of unused space there, right?! ::lol

I think i'm just not built (lol) for woodworking haha

And a bookshelf above my head?! Hm... well, it DOES sound interesting, but i probably wont be building it above my head, maybe behind my head is good? :pp

That oxford probably had a grudge against you... hope you're doing alright!

I get you.. sometimes i take a look and im like... no more books..
But then i get that itch... and suddenly, i get more books out of nowhere!

I've never heard of this until now! It looks cool! I don't think I'd be able to build anything like that lol

It's converted out of an old bank, apparently. The bottom store is like a regular bookstore with tables and whatnot. Upstairs there's the tunnel and a vault is turned into its own room (I think it was westerns when I was there last, years ago), and a kind of maze-ish area where the books are arranged by color and they're all super cheap. They also have art piece around, and they made this hole so you can see through

I live in an apartment, so I can't put up my own shelves and I don't want to spend for standalone bookshelves. I just lay them on the floor and line my walls with them: some stacks are "flat" and I rest the "upright" ones against them. Then again, I only have ~150 books (mostly large technical books), so you might run out of floor space if you have a lot more than that...

I just store my books on shelves and in boxes.
I'm starting to run out of space, but rather than make more space, I'm thinking it'd probably be better to just get rid of some. I've got some books I'll probably never read, and some books I'll definitely never want to read again. So why bother keeping them.
Besides, I already have a game collection, and I don't have enough room to go around collecting two types of things, let alone books.

But that's just me.

All fine and dandy till that one heavy book on the top slips out and puts someone into a coma

Also, the LAST bookstore?! That shit a bunker or something? Books to read when the world ends? lmao

Yeah, doing a version of this in the last few years has brought a lot of convenience to books/comics/movies and the like, my tiny home ran out of storage space some time ago.
