I didn't know where else this should go. As of posting this, it was yesterday, and Godspeed Ross. Whether this works or fails, you did more than most would. You tried. I wish you all the best with this.... not just for us, not just for gamers now, but for future generations of gamers who, if something doesn't change, will only be able to read about the games we play now.

To quote Commissioner Gordon "A hero. Not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed. Nothing less than a knight"

Humblest, nicest, smartest person I have ever come across — I'd always thought that passion of his would take him places.

Whether he success or not, he has already secured his place in history, which is far more than most of us could ever say or even aspire to.

I really hope this initiative really push through. It’s not just for the good of the consumers but for the whole industry as a whole. If Ross succeeds it’s going to be a huge turnaround for the better.

Whatever the outcome this dude is already part of history.

Think what they are doing is great and im glad they are trying hard. But at the same time I think it´s pointless I mean your trying to talk with morons that don´t understand anything about games and don´t wanna understand. We are talking people in a high position that care only about them self and profit we talking people that don´t mind people dying as long as they can line their own pockets.

Will this change anything or will it just be another fruitless screaming in the void for everything fall to deaf ears because greed. Greed always wins.

That's honestly not what we saw on the video, though — every one of the members of EU Parliament that took the mic either cared deeply or at least understood that millions of the citizens they were elected to represent were being scammed on the daily. That's not nothing.

Also: check out MEP Catalina Vieira's speech — now, THAT'S A GAMER.

Oh I saw the whole thing yesterday. But pretending is easy and we talking politicians they lie out their ass to look good and for you to vote on them again. I believe it when I see actual results.

And companies will not lay down and take it they will use their money to get any one to change their mind.

I mean of a group of women can get banks to get games banned because they don´t like them. Imagine what Nintendo, Ubisoft, EA can do to kill stop killing games.

Grease enough hands and stop killing games will not even be a memory in the heads of the parliament and nothing will change.

As I said I think stop killing games is great movement but knowing greedy humans I see it´s utterly pointless.

And to Freeman we salute
Sad Metal Gear Solid GIF

Fair point.

They'll definitely try. Hopefully, though, they will learn that going up against a whole continent is not as easy as dismissing Change.org petitions all day long.

I'm not sure that works, though — companies backed off then as a 'PR Measure', but it's a matter of public interest now.
Grease enough hands and stop killing games will not even be a memory in the heads of the parliament and nothing will change.
That's a real possibility, I'm afraid.

If this pulls through this isn’t the first time the European Parliament sided with the consumers. Remember back in 2024 when Apple was compelled to allow iPhone users in Europe the right to access 3rd party stores like AlStore on their iOS devices. That opened the doors for retro gaming emulators to be available in the AppStore for the first time since the iPhone’s released back in the late 2000s.

Woah! I didn't know that!

Go Europe!

I do hope they win because is a massive win for preservation games is now also a Art they need to accept it.
For me, preservation of history is one of the most important thing! As how can we and the industry grow and learn form the past with out it continuing to exist? The creators of these games where artists, and i want their art to continue forever! This is important to inspire others, not to mention for modders, who can improve on the works for all to enjoy. Jut have to look at some of the translation efforts, and the game improvement efforts. Which can then turn in to others who enter the industry and just spire and interest in coding and engineering. Games must continue to exist, for all to enjoy for ever! They for me anyway where a sign of the time, almost immortalizing the time. The emotions i get from playin some of hte classics like RE psx, xenogears, and many others. HECK the history of survival horror and he golden years of it. My word! I cannot stress this enough, Just have to look a the number of mobile games that no longer exist and cannot be accessed as a result, so much gone!

Remember people this is why you create backups of your owned games in case crap hits the consumer from greed, you gotta be prepared and keep up to know what is gonna happen and read them like a book before they implement it. I bought a rog ally x just barely over a year ago and it still running perfectly and I got it for 649.99 open box (I think the new price was $749.99 or $799.99) and was used less than 3 days cause was logged into Microsoft or something I forget but it showed 2 days and some hours usage. My point being is now the rog ally x is discontinued and Xbox rog ally x is at least 1k now and I knew the crap was gonna happen so I planned ahead, I don't fall for any bs anymore because I know exactly how the hire-ups think it is like common sense for me so it's easy to never get scammed my whole life 36years.

Had to do a double take when it popped up in my feed, but yeah, hoping the best for the initiative. Games absolutely should not be sold with some shadow expiration date that kills them forever just because a publisher or developer doesn't want to bake in sunset plans.

Especially when they are designed that way.

It's senseless.

Yeah this is why older retro games and emulators are such a big thing nowadays and why emulators get new updates all the time and why many younger people are mostly playing older games, honestly they are smart, at least with the old games they won't ever be removed since they aren't on a digital store and there is so many amazing s tier games from the past that none of the newer games are even needed oh and the replay ability of older games many don't get old no matter how many times you replay them because the combat systems in many older games were made in a way that made them super fun and not like now where they are made for addiction.

You are standing on a VERY slippery slope my friend.

We ALWAYS need new game development.

If I'm being charitable, I can see some of the sense. For example, they might be using some kind of third party software to run servers that prohibits them from just releasing it as is. Okay. Fine. We'll go with something like that.

But.

As you said, most of these things are designed with stuff like that, where it'd be probably a similar level of effort for them to make whatever they're making in a way they can just release it afterwards. That's not even counting making offline modes during general development, etc.

That may be a key sentence.

People FOUND an offline mode deep in the code for The Crew's executable, so it had been planned to still work like any normal game after the multiplayer died... But they just couldn't have that.

You are right about third-party software and the like, but this poisons the well so spectacularly...

ALL games and code and art should be preserved! And if the companies are not interested in doing it, people should.

Just look at the loss of history throughout time! Everything should be preserved and learnt from freely and openly with out IP on what has been learnt, as F the AI IP laws.

The AI can learn, but i do not agree in profiting off of others work!
