This is the title of the european initiative that was created a year ago to stop publishers from knocking down online games when they stop finding them profitable, rendering all users (free & paid) angry / sad / crazy.

I apologize for the people outside Europe, I don't know how could you contribute because this situation affects you as well, but at least it's something :)

Well as it always were lag and they ban or kick me all the time it weren't much effective on me(sometime I only say hi and they kick me! Well lately gamers act a bit like nazies special Chinese!)
But hear some good games turn off their servers forever made me sad a bit. I like the videos made from them.

I believe the approach is to force a publisher / developer to change the game into a selfhosted online or completely offline game so you can still play it on your own. Specially nowadays, that there are many online games that also focus on solo gaming instead of old school games that wanted players to join forces to overcome stuff, so it was kind of mandatory.

This comes at a cost, of course. But I guess most of users would pay for a "complete" last version of an online game to turn it into offline / local co-op.

WHAT? video games are under threat? RISE UP GAMERS TODAY WE RIDE AT DAWN oh wait most gamers can't even get out of their chairs ehhh forget it

Oh this thread remind me rider of ecarose. You play in open world with others. My country been ban and any player get ban from there. So people don't talk about it honestly.
One time someone ask on of them "where are you from?"
- I'm from germany
-where in germany?
-i live in frankford
-im in Berlin where send me location I want to see you!
-(*after thinking*) I back to mother lands bro! When I turn back there i will contact you!
Well then he remove German dude from friends and didn't play it for 2 weeks!
When servers get shutdown, a lot of people play get lost!

Reminds me of many many EA free-to-play games they used to host like NFS World, Battlefield Free to Play and Heroes. They had very good online, but got shut down eventually with all players celebrating their departure. I remember NFS World having bunch of players meet up in their cars and just waiting until the time goes out

I remember getting utterly wrecked by inugami because I tried to take them on. Someone asked if I wanted help, and I said no, because I'm a RuneScape player. Single player MMO. Why wouldn't I be able to do this?

But yeah, I do remember people enjoying it. It definitely has a unique atmosphere that was great. And there's a lot of now-dead games that would be really cool to still have.

I do have a feeling this bill will be taken as "we just won't release our games in the European market", but it's too early to see.

Wow, I swear I completely forgot this initiative existed lol, not a good sign I guess

It's mind-blowing to me that we had both better games and a better experience when the average consumer computer would struggle to run Doom 3.

We got internet, they got ideas... And now a part of me is honestly afraid that I will one day have to pull up YouTube and pray that someone's 20-year-old footage from a game long killed is still up just to be able to show it around and reminisce about how fun it was to play.

Funnily enough this applies to me but in a literal sense due to an accident I had yesterday.
Should be up and running in about a week, but I'll make do for now.

Anyway, the movement. I really wanted to do shit but...well you saw the video, the USA is kind of a lost cause. It is what it is.

In a just world, Fantasy Earth Zero would live again

Oh really? Damn get well soon man.

What video btw?

Maybe they acting like Dealers, no more $ profits from junkies, go out/offline and move on with another shot!1.

welp i am neither european nor american and honestly? i dont believe in the law system because companies still do bullshit things that are ""legal""

That approach is kind of risky. It could mean "we don't want any profit from a market of 450 million potential users". But it's not the first time I read that. But in such case I think it would be like the introduction to modern censorship era in videogames that we lived 6-7 years ago. Many people (including me) stopped buying some PS4 games and getting the Switch version because it was not censored, until devs just censored everything just to be on par. Games that are in development would have hard time, but games that would be developed from scratch would have that law in mind and would create things the easy way in order to be able to change it when necessary.

I support this. I really like the game The Crew 2 and it kinda fucks me up that I can never play the first one.
