Steam now requires age verification in the UK

umm whats happenin in this thread....
A far-right conspiracy nut has hijacked the thread to push forward his dumb conspiracy about the great reset and how this is tied to "ESG"... Even though the OSA was previously pushed by the Tories, and Keir Starmer's Labour have decided to run with it because they are far-leftists. This thread isn't gonna last long.

that sounds scary

They have your photo, your address and your personal ID number. Your personal info is already in enough places as is.
Yes being an adult means you are fully tracked by your government, they also know how much I usually earn and spend, what I buy, my entire internet history and all so thus they come up with a psychological profile to figure out what kind of person I'm and try to predict what kind of crime I may commit.

> government checking what I buy:
> Lots of Doritos, vegetables, not much meat, and books like Erika Mcgann - The Demon Notebook
> government checking my internet history
> Lots of cat videos, lots of scientific materials, DeviantArt, Soundcloud, no social media presence
> government checks deeply
> lots of old games!!!
*threat level purple*
> "he is probably a cult leader. send a man or two to tail him and have them report in every 15 minutes!!!"
> "sir, part of his internet history is English and Japanese!!!"
> "damn he must be a Japanese spy!!"
> "sir we also found Chinese stuff"
> "damn he must be a Chinese spy!!"
> "sir we also found French stuff"
> "damn... he must be... who the fuck is heeee!!!!"

lolol

Well simple just don't use the Internet at let the government have them since they really want to control then we ditch for them and find their people, let them collapse, if people really want to survive don't use Internet go with old fashioned just go outside and do manual way like those credit card use cash or want information use Radio because I think you can't relay news on Internet since those government wants to media black out right, for entertainment just use dvd or watch channel play games use physical copy or before going on route make silure you store up people can survive without Internet

If people not willing to be control by the government then just don't use what the government gives you people will a way to survive or to work around it

Not much different since there already are popups telling you to verify your age on M games for years now. Given how easy it was to bypass this as is as you weren't punished for lying about your birth year (meaning anyone can just say 1-1-2001 if they find them annoying enough every time), this feels inevitable. That said I also do not fuck with the overreach, I already don't fuck with the current method being so half-assed but that doesn't mean I'm okay with handing over personal information when people literally use VPNs and Aura because the internet already has that stuff.

What does an Alt-Right conspiracy have to do with the ongoing backlash against Online Surveillance?
Don't conflate something that's very real, something that the World Economic Forum has talked about in their own videos (they actually removed the "You will own nothing and you will be happy" one after the pushback), with "alt-right conspiracies."

Oh, sorry. The "Great Reset" had already failed. These Age Verifications will fail/are failing, too.
EDIT: See, because of the fact that the western world is built on a free market, stuff like The Censorship Crusade and the WEF's Great Reset are ultimately doomed to collapse in on themselves for a variety of reasons. We're seeing it with 4chan suing Ofcom and YouTube being sued too: people like having choice, or at least the illusion thereof, and when you try to strip those choices away, people will be mad and will make their voices known in one way or another. So although things look bleak, the tides have already begun to turn against age verification and censorship.

I like how it is "for my safety"... Like, how does that even help me? God forbid children saw gore or something on a videogame and couldn't, you know, find that very same thing on YouTube or through five seconds of Googling with safe search off.

thank you i dont believe there is a left and right its all the same con and all the same coin. they are all the same. think 2 wings on the same bird. hope that helps you understand.
Anytime.
EDIT: And yeah, the backlash against Kier Starmer's Labour is ultimately gonna lead to the end of the Online Safety Act down the road... even if it means it comes with the more open wanker Nigel Farage as prime minister.

Kier Starmer will manage to unite everyone in the UK if he keeps up the crap.

Plenty of people have grown up on unsupervised access to every flavor of sexually problematic under the sun and turned out fine.
And sure, you can argue that you need to present your ID to purchase adult things in person, or that you can't access free adult entertainment irl without identification, but physical retailers and vendors don't really keep record of your government-issued ID that precisely ties your identity to your consumption habits in a way governments can observe without a judicial warrant if the UK legal system is anything like the US, and that kind of privacy violation doesn't justify the alleged benefits.

Yet basic privacy is required.

For example once upon a time an old lady in a grocery shop I used to go memorized my name from my credit card during payment -> found my Facebook account (I have a very distinct name that not many people have) -> barge entered into my life by randomly wanna chat that it turned out I just being polite to answer her when she wanted to chat. Just because of my social mask to seem "normal" she thought I'm a "rare decent person" while I'm like Dexter Morgan minus serial killer part lol. IDK if I made her remember her grandson or something. Thankfully the old lady died naturally after few years so she doesn't bother me anymore but I'm afraid she would bother me in afterlife too lolol.

Yo,

so the recent changes to UK law have affected many Users, including myself.

Whilst this is an important conversation, it is inherently political by nature, meaning that it will likely be closed. This will happen very quickly if the discussion devolves into jabs, finger-pointing or tangential political theory. Disparaging remarks aimed at current political parties or entities should be avoided. Please try and stay on topic. Thanks

Understood its just bad for business all round despite political stance.

if you already bought games, why the need to store credit card? It could be out of date for that matter

I always enter the card info separately with each purchase, same for gog.

Don't trust steam security.
One time they highjacked my public profile friends list and sent them phishing messages.
