Steam Machine prices are out, and they're just as bad as expected

"And so the Steam machines failed... again... and for the same problem"

Like I expected the price to be bad after the over priced controller, BUT THIS BAD?! Im laughing at all the Valve fan boys that even suggested $300 because Valve was willing to bite the bullets for them.

Good for valve, I had no interest even in the original price. There are so much better emulation machines that are cheaper than this, and can plug into a flat screen t v or monitor.

Surprised the price is so low honestly. I was expecting base $1200. Won't be getting one, though. It's a shame, I was definitely interested. For now my 25 ft HDMI from my computer will suit me fine.

Lot of AI bros on the site not speaking up right now about the greater good for their causes. Lol.

NUTDEALER is coming and GTA VI will cost $200 only to flop while Touhou 6 will release on Cirno day and make 10 Remillion dollars

In all honesty, I get the appeal of the steam deck but who was this for really??

It's a console for people that use steam, why would anyone do that and just get a laptop or something?

Not surprising in the slightest. AI bros in general stand for nothing but bottomless greed, and assumptions of things will always go their way.

A real shame, I like Valve and the Steam Deck but this is simply not for me, too expensive, too underpowered & the cherry ontop not even a controller included.

Newell's an AI bro. He just bought a house next to Oracle's Larry Ellison. Microsoft, Sony, etc., are all heavily investing in AI. So when they say "We have to raise prices, we have no choice," they're lying to you because they supported the AI buildup.
while i do agree that Microsoft and Sony are digging their own graves thanks to their AI support, I don't think living next door to an AI Bro doesn’t make you an AI bro.
Is there any other evidence?
Did an AI tell them to ignore what they learned from the much-hyped and soon-forgotten Steam Machine v1 debacle? Just kidding, farm that low-effort cred.
The Steam Machines price was originally at $750 but thanks to Sam Altman sweet talking the whole tech industry with his snake oil. the price of ram has gone up thus leading to all kinds of tech (including the steam machine) going up in prices as well.

How the fuck is AI not at fault for this?

You can buy a comparable, slightly better, Acer pre-built at Walmart for $900. But honestly, you'd have to be rich and/or a lunatic to buy a machine with an 8GB GPU right now since we're being told that the next-generation starts in 2027. This should've been 12 or 16GB. 8GB is already not enough for a lot of games currently releasing.

honestly I think the only way for them to "break even" on this is to do a very limited run of units and then only start a second manufacturing set if resale goes crazy, bcs like this is not a competitive product in the slightest

Man I think we're forgetting the goddamn pandemic at the very start of the decade.
Fake news manufactured by government mandated chipmunks with comically large cameras on their head who's goal is to annihilate the human race and maid robots smh

(I can't entirely hate it for real simply because it's the reason I'm here)

steam machine’s basically for folks who don’t have a decent pc setup

Luckily for me I mostly game from handhelds and my laptop, so the Steam Machine was never on my radar.

Y'all should be thanking AI for saving people from spending money on a machine with an 8GB GPU that lacks dual channel ram. This thing is already outdated and will become obsolete over the next 12-24 months.
