I know it's solely because of AI hoarding any kinda of components, but man.... The Steam Machine isn't going to sell even Gamecube numbers, not even if Half-Life 3 is exclusive to it since people are going to find ways to bypass that.
Valve shouldn't have released new hardware at a time like this

I've never seen a console more dead on arrival.
wrong.

and these are just TWO examples.

At this rate it's better to just get a laptop and hook it to a TV.
that's what I've done with my setup but instead of a tv it's a gaming monitor on a stand and a cooling pad for the laptop. I've had that bad boy for 6 YEARS with all my emulation needs covered.

It was a dumb idea and a flop the first time they did it. The Deck succeeded because it's portable. When I first saw the news about them trying this again I just smh. Who ever cared about this?

AI has truly been the worst thing about the 2020s.
Did an AI tell them to ignore what they learned from the much-hyped and soon-forgotten Steam Machine v1 debacle? Just kidding, farm that low-effort cred.

Why are they so focus on hardware? God forbid they make games 😭
Because YOU can choose the games after you've purchased it. Still, I get what you mean. We can also make the same comparison with a different console, like The PS5.

You can buy a comparable, slightly better, Acer pre-built at Walmart for $900. But honestly, you'd have to be rich and/or a lunatic to buy a machine with an 8GB GPU right now since we're being told that the next-generation starts in 2027. This should've been 12 or 16GB. 8GB is already not enough for a lot of games currently releasing.

To all the AI bros on the site, isn’t this what you all wanted?
Newell's an AI bro. He just bought a house next to Oracle's Larry Ellison. Microsoft, Sony, etc., are all heavily investing in AI. So when they say "We have to raise prices, we have no choice," they're lying to you because they supported the AI buildup.

Must be demoralizing for the Steam Machine to get a bad reputation again but this time it was completely out of their control with the current crisis we have. I get it. Delaying this was never an option because contracts were made and production was already mostly complete. But sometimes, perhaps, cutting your losses and moving on isn't so bad...

The Silver lining in this is the newest version of SteamOS might see even more use outside of their hardware and they will also take the lessons learned here for the inevitable Steam Deck 2.
