Sony Talk and News

At that price they may as well just make a playstation themed linux PC. Like what Steam is doing with linux.

They could try and compete with steam.
See the stark difference between Sony and Valve? Valve actually gives a flying Fuck about its customers, while Sony seems to view us as nothing more than dollar signs. If Sony were run by someone like Gabe Newell, then sure, it might actually have a fighting chance against Valve. But as it stands, Sony is just another megacorp, filled with a bunch of greedy suits who wouldn’t know customer service if it smacked them in the face.

The idea of a console being more than 1k bucks isn't new for me, when the the PS4 came out in my country it was called the PS4 thousand, bc it was 4 thousand bucks to buy a new one. It was literally less expensive (at the time) to travel to the US, buy a new one there, and come back.
Also, i think i've stopped in time at some point, because for me the ps4 isn't that old of a console. I barely even know what's been out for the PS5, except that it has 4K, but i don't own a 4k monitor/TV anyway so ::cirnoshrug.

Brazil, I presume?

Aye, Brazil always get the shaft when it comes to gaming. I assume the Mega Drive only gets you so far. Are game prices just as wild? And how many people actually fork up the BRL for the privilege (I say that with utmost irony) to play modern games?

About game prices, it depends if you're playing on console or PC, steam helps a lot with the sales and some game developers localize the prices to be affordable. Of course, that's not the case with newer games or triple A games most times. COD: Black Ops 6 for example is 340 bucks with the normal version, and the complete edition is almost R$500, the same goes for switch games, which the majority is R$400. If you stop to think that 500 bucks is a little less than half the minimum wage salary, you start to understand why piracy is so big around here.
Some people still buy those games tho, but the way that i see it, it's usually the same type of person who buys a whole console just to play FIFA and buy the same game with a new number attached to it every year.

Tldr: if you're gonna be a gamer™ in Brazil, you're gonna be better off being a indie game enjoyer, liking retro games or sailing the internet with emulators.

As someone who almost always chose physical than digital and have enough money to burn, they better give me a very damn good reason to spend more than $500 on console alone. As usual, I will wait until they actually announce the next gen and see how Sony gonna play this out.

They're primed for another generational dunk with the PS6 reveal if they don't copy Nintendo's game key bullshit for physical copies. Easy W but I wouldn't put it past them to mess it up. Jim Ryan stepping down is a good sign though, that guy was a piece of shit.

Sony relies on the sales of those who don't know any better, or have the will to seek out anything better. The same people still playing games on PlayStation consoles with a smile are the demographic that still believes, "consoles are just better you just turn it on and play the game without hassle." They still truly believe that in 2025 despite Warzone needing a 80GB update every time they wake the console to the home screen. People like that will never be swayed be our kind. They simply wake up one day and realize they have a box that streams netflix and they want something better, or they just lose interest in gaming and it becomes a permanent stream box. You ever have friends that just stopped playing games online with you, but they're always online; but it's always a stream app instead of a game? Those people. Those are the customers Sony relies on.

It is now known that Sony wants to build another PSP but what do you think could this be something or will it end like the last two PSP? I'm a bit skeptical but let's see what happens .

Both Microsoft and Sony are working on handheld devices I believe. I love my PsP so hopefully Sony do it justice.

I’ve been through this song and dance many a time. I’ll only take this discourse seriously if there’s an official announcement.
Yep. And making a second PSP is a very tall order anyway. Its (in my personal humble opinion) probably the greatest handheld of all time. Yes I'm putting it above the DS that's not ridiculous that's not ridiculous to say that

The PS Vita was a superb upgrade to the PSP (especially the original models with the OLED screens) and yet official support for it from Sony was milquetoast at best. It spent half of its lifespan on commercial life support. Like Yousef says I'll only believe it once I've seen it, and even then I won't be buying it.

twice as powerful as the Switch 2 sign me in.
If this happens it'll be twice the price too. People don't get that the Switch being "underpowered" is why it's price is relatively affordable. You gotta factor in PSN cost 80 bucks yearly and with the new Switch game price reveals well... Its not looking great...

I do think it'd make sense for console proprietors to switch to a cheaper handheld console alternative, assuming they're going to stick with the concept of consoles at all.

Portability and convenience are the one and only aspects that something like the Switch has over PC gaming anymore (Steam deck aside), while the PS5 and whatever XBox iteration we're on at this point have become completely obsolete to me.

That said, I doubt they'll manage to hit the sweet spot of price and quality that they'd need to hit to justify that endeavor, given the competition they're up against and especially given their recent corporate history.

Going to be extremely hard in today's environment to succeed, with the Switch 2, Steamdeck, and countless of handhelds out of China that can play/stream PC games, where the best games are no longer mainly console exclusives.

Psp was very good. I playing final fantasy lion wars on it. It would be cool to have a new psp. In fact in this age people more like big consoles like Xbox and PlayStation. Even if switch is a moveable and new console, you will see people rather to play with bigger consoles.

Sony's handhelds are great, it would be a day-one purchase for me but I would mod the shit out of it to be honest.
