Sony Platformers. (1st party)

I love Klonoa, I only added Sony owned IPs (or were owned by Sony at some point) because I knew I was gonna add every character under the sun (Rayman, croc, glover, jumping flash, gex, croc, Rockman dash, etc) and I had to limit myself ?
Edit: look again :p

I don’t think they’ll ever recover. They made TLOU their own call of duty.
My mistake, if you were going by that Klonoa is Namco

>sad wahoo

No offense but what does this even mean really? I played and loved TLOU1 and eventually I'll get around to playing 2 but what does "They made TLOU their own CoD" mean when they've effectively only made 2 games (and a needless remake of 1) in the franchise after 11 years? Not to mention the new game seems to be going in a unique direction as a new IP even if I'm sad Neil is as the helm (not a fan of certain stances he holds on things :3). While many lament Uncharted 4 as some kind of TLOU-ification of the franchise I tend to think that for that specific part of the story it made the most sense to lean into having more slow moments and an emphasis on more grounded storytelling. It still absolutely oozes that Uncharted charm and wit though. Uncharted Lost Legacy even moreso!

It's a pedantic thing to ask I admit but idk. Even if I'm not a fan of Naughty Dog turning into a AAAA studio it is hard to deny the stuff they produce isn't still good and somehow unique despite how much they've influenced the industry.

Ah… I didn’t think about it that deeply, sorry ?
I think you read a little too deeply into my comment. :p

Was pleasantly surprised when Sly 2 and 3 were made available on the Playstation Store. Only played the first one and really dug it so can't wait to try the sequels out. I remember really liking the first Jak and Daxter but never bothered with the sequels as they seemed a bit too try-hard with edginess. If I liked the first one should I still check out the sequels?

Absolutely. They’re the high point for the series.

Do you mean the Jak games? If so, I guess those are another two I will add to the backlog! 3D platformers are my favourite genre so more for me to tr out can never be a bad thing!

Yup the Jak games ?
Saaaame it’s hard to keep up with so many platformers.

Then I will try them out after I tackle the Sly sequels. The PS2 era really was peak for Sony platformers in many ways and there is still a lot from that time I have not played so looking forward to experiencing these games for the first time!

I don't think him meant that TLOU games are bad, just that it is Naughty Dog's favorite child, and they will focus more on TLOU than other projects. Which is fair, considering how they treated the franchise - launching a remaster in 2014, and a 2 part remake of a single game in 2022(the game launched in 2013), and there's the series too.
Again, the games aren't bad it's just that Naughty dog will milk it until there's nothing left, like Todd Howard with Skyrim.

Nice. Ape escape is also good but they don’t have 3 in psn store yet. Hope you have fun with Jak once you get to it. Yeah ps2 was peak Sony I’ve loved every ip they had on ps2.

I played Ape escape 2 for the first time a few months ago and loved my time with it. Thought it improved on everything from the first game with the exception of the soundtrack. Would like to try 3 sometime and think it is great that the million monkeys game got translated recently. Definitely will try that when I have suitable hardware in the future.

I haven't actually played many of the Sony platformers.

I played Ratchet & Clank 1 and 2 as a kid, and that was about it. I've only recently started playing more of them as an adult. I first played Spyro 1 a few years ago, and it was a good time. Tried Crash 1 around the same time and hated it lol.

I played Ape Escape 1 for the first time last month and it was fun, but I definitely did not dig the control scheme lol, trying to spin the right stick for the hover baton or to dash just felt bad. But catching the apes was super satisfying.

I guess I've played Astro's Playroom and Astro Bot, for modern Sony platformers, both of those were amazing, easily recommend to anyone with a PS5. I do plan on playing Sackboy A Big Adventure soon, been wanting a new Super Mario 3D Land/World type game and I hope this'll scratch that itch.

In fairness, Crash 1 is easily the weakest of the trilogy. Not many movement options, lack of varied environments and some absolute brutal level design. I would still say you should at least check out the sequels as I think they refine and expand on the mechanics a good deal and have a nicer difficulty curve. I remember struggling with Crash 1 on the N Sane trilogy and was amazed at how much of a leap in quality 2 was in comparison when I played the games in order.

I have to agree. It is sorta my least favorite crash due to having way less styff for me to care about

Yeah, Stormy Ascent and the bridge levels really bought out the rage in me when I played them. Could be absolute torture but I have to admit the elation when I finally finished those levels was something else. Definitely was one reason why I would never 100% it though!

What? No mention of Maximo? You guys have no taste

It starts off easy enough but later levels makes you wanna rip your hair. There is this one level where you have to make a jump and skeletons will camp at the edge of the other side to push you into oblivion.

The sequel is more action focused rather than plaformer but still good. The only thing i didn't really like is that towards the end, the levels feel like they go on and on

Sadly, the game ends in a cliffhanger and the third game didn't make it past pre production or something so Maximo's journey came to an end without a satisfying conclusion.

Probably because it’s off topic since it’s not a first party game but it’s not like I’d wanna gatekeep that discussion. Plus I think it would get annoying if I told people not to mention 3rd party games. Unless they complain about X game not being mentioned which… you did xd, oops

My mistake, i thought it was fair game since maximo is ps2 only.

Yeah. In all fairness thoogh this does warrant a title change since it happened twice now.

Ape Escape has not ONE single bad game, everyone should play them right now, stop playing the game you're playing currently, please and thank you.
This is true and correct. Nyo.

Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank, and LittleBigPlanet are my favorite Playstation games. I don't know if I'd consider Crash to be Playstation after the PS1 games but it counts so. I still have yet to play Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper. Gonna get around to that after I finally trudge through Crash again.
