Sonic Unleashed got a PC Recompilation

So basically, we finally got our (unofficial) PC port of the game.

As long as you're owning the actual game on the Xbox 360 (or bought it on the Microsoft Store).

Yeah. They probably chose the 360 as the target because .xex files are basically packaged .exes.

I played the total conversion mod that has the running stages from Unleashed in the Sonic Generations engine, which was pretty cool. Featured a full campaign with unlockable upgrades and stuff. Never played the original Unleashed so I don't know how it compares to that or now this.

Hopefully that means we could see Fable 2, the og Ninja Gaiden 2 and Lost Odyssey have PC ports too. So many good games are stuck on 7th gen hardware.

PS3 emulation isn't perfect and I think that Sega was also more comfortable with X360 hardware.

The Unleashed Project is good but I've never managed to make it work because I couldn't properly find the mod.

I'm sad that Generations' modding scene has been less present over the years. Maybe Sonic fans preferred to make fangames in custom engines.

Personally I'd love to see other Sonic games getting decompilations/recompilations (especially those that never saw a modern PC port like Heroes which is stuck in an older DRM locked DVD or Riders that also has a DRM).

However, the recent recompilation is demonstrably impressive, not only for Sonic Unleashed but also in its potential applicability to other Xbox 360 titles aswell. Well, you can put your X360 owned game but you'll need something to connect to PC (hard drive transfer cable) and use a specific program to extract everything needed (like Velocity).

You can use files for it, but you're not supposed to same way you're supposed to legally own the roms you use for emulators.

I managed with an iso though.

You need the DLC and title update as well.

Honestly it makes me sad that someone is faking it...

At least The Unleashed Project was a great alternative to play it on PC despite that it was 45% of the actual game (hubs and side missions included).

You mean was lol, now we have a genuine attempt at it and I even gotten it on my PC and it works just fine. Not playing it yet but everyhing works at home. I hate that Mac players cannot have the fun yet though; only Windows and Linux users.

Historically Mac computers are historically not made for gaming.

Sure, it's nice to see that Apple is more open to gaming than before with Apple Arcade (although letting these games only as a service is bad for the future preservation) since they were scared of it after the failure of the Pippin.

Maybe it's because of how the OSX environment is much less open for stuff like unofficial ports that makes it less easy to put it on.

When you put it that way, it's a lot more understandable. Windows is primarily the gaming platform especially ever since Vista when they tried bringing Games for Windows onto the platform with it and Xbox/Xbox 360

I put a few hours into it earlier, not noticed any issues so far, it's great.
Likely won't do a full playthrough for a while though, it's wasn't that long ago when I 100% the game on series X.

Honestly it's really well put together I'm just waiting for a retranslated mod since I usually play Sonic games in Japanese if it's my second playthrough. And ik that the dialogue that the characters say in Japanese doesn't quite match up to the English sub

I almost always play with japanese voices myself.

I don't take too much attention to the story.

I have played Unleashed on the Xbox 360 emulator (sadly at 30 because 60 FPS f-ed up the QTEs somehow).

You should play the recomp as only the Series X could run the game without any slowdown if you go for console.

Well, I think you'd better wait a bit, I haven't played the PS3 version on real hardware but I'll assume it lags like the original X360.

Or you can play the PS2/Wii one on Dolphin.

I have! It's terrible, worse than 360 in most areas, yet bizarrely better in during the jungle tunnel in Adabat.
360 version is at a locked 30 and dips below at parts, ps3 version is unlocked and causes issues.
The Xbox one still has issues running at times and the Series X has stutters while loading sometimes, though at least it's consistant.

I’m curious how 360 games run on a rig that struggles to emulate the 360. I had no issues running gta iv and Deadpool, I really hope Musou Orochi Z gets a recomp.
