One of the best Sonic fan games I have ever played, also complete and quite polished, it even addresses one of my personal nitpicks about the original game, Knuckles' inclusion, no spoilers. One small nitpick is you can't play as either Sonic or Tails alone (least from what I remember) you must play as both characters together which is odd. The only bad thing about this game... is not having a REAL Genesis/Mega Drive version or project to do it.
Or at least... for Sega CD/Mega-CD.

It's one of the many great fan projects for Sonic. It's a shame that both Sonic 2 HD and Sonic Fan Remix were cancelled, they had so much potential, surpassing SEGA's own efforts to retooling classic Sonic titles.
I've seen other incomplete projects being released here, it would be awesome if some of the supporters/admins uploaded those here to raise even more awareness about those projects.
Needless to say Sega do not have anymore the original people and internal CS studios which made those games in the 90s.
It was the STRONG Sonic fans community who literally learnt how to "redo" those classic games from scratch and with no help, during many years.
Sega, after 2004 (coming from the disastrous 2001 Dreamcast official cancellation) starts a decade of "disintegration" and bad use of its classic assets, were basically they almost disappear in the west, until they bought and refound Atlus, which was the very first big great thing they did, in 10 years, to regain importance outside Japan.

I mean, yeah... Naoto Oshima (the very creator of Sonic character) temporally returned after more than 20 years outside Sega to make "Sonic Superstars". But even then, that game was not "sprite based" because it would have been very difficult for Sega and Oshima's Arzest company to "relearn" how to produce those kind of games.
The final product was not bad, but worse than expected, because it resembles more to Sonic 4... than the MD classic Sonics (as Sonic Mania positively does).

Also, Oshima was the original character creator, but the real director of those 16bit projects was not him* but Yuji Naka (*with the exception of Sonic CD, because Naka was occupied doing Sonic 2 in US). I suppose Naka did not return for "Superstars", because was occupied doing other projects and crazy things, as we now, when Sonic Superstars was in development.

Played through this one. It rules.
Every now and then there's the odd physics anomaly while jumping/landing. But it's rad.

I am not much of a fan of the Sonic games per sé, but this is *extremely* well done. Found myself playing it a fair bit. No menu jank, great sound. Will definitely keep it because it might be the finest Sonic game going, which is kind of insane! Gotta admire the effort and care that made it.

Edit: Nelson you are faster than Sonic, holy moly.

Not only is this game extremely polished, but the dev intentionally made this game adhering to Genesis technical limitations and even put in extra shoutouts to other games in the franchise in a way that makes sense for the time period he was replicating. Until Sonic Galactic gets released in full, I don't think this will be topped for my favorite fangame.

My personal favorite fan project for Sonic. It really feels like something that Sega would've put out on the Genesis back in the 90s.

This looks way better than the original Game Gear version!

It's a pretty well made and well-worked Fangame, this Sonic Triple Trouble but in 16-bits (Mega Drive/Genesis Style).
