Port of the Game Gear version to the Sega Master System, I've always preferred the Game Gear version for the better level design, better visuals, and overall more polish, this game really does benefit of the extra screen so this hack gives you the best of both worlds. Personally, I prefer the vanilla Master System version.

The Master System version is often considered the better version, though it appears most people don't realize how different the two versions are and assume the only difference is the view area and Sonic's sprites, at least Dan made this incredible video fairly recently so now I can use it to explain why I always prefered the GG version despite the screen crunch and why it is my favorite game of the 8bit Sonic titles, this version now is my preferred way to play it, not only does it have a better level design and a more fair challenge but it has more polish, better graphics, and even the SEGA intro.

This Sonic 1 via GG2SMS version is quite decently achieved because it has a field of view very close to the Master System version and also graphically it looks very similar to it (Although the position of the interface is the same as in the Game Gear version), although it suffers from having some flickering at the top of the screen and unnecessary slowdowns when an enemy appears on the screen, which is rare but true, but even so it is a decently achieved port as I said.
