Sonic Riders and Sonic Rush Adventure BAD?! What???
I have newfound appreciation for that game and what it was trying to do after playing it five times in a row a while backI came here to see literally everyone underrate the only perfect videogame ever made, Sonic the Hedgehog (1) for Megadrive, and nobody's let me down. Okay, you may continue. ;)
Fanmade stuff technically wouldn't count, but it's better like this, it means more Sonic games to enjoy overall :]SRB2 is also quite top tier but should fangames and mods/romhack count in the list?
I mean P-06, 3D Blast DX fixed many issues and Sonic 3 Complete basically enhanced Sonic 3&K (which was already great) into an even higher plane.
I could even put Sonic Classic Heroes, Sonic 1 Forever, Sonic CD Miracle Edition, Sonic 2 Absolute and Sonic 3 Angel Island Revisited in the S tier above their original counterparts.
sonic riders just has bad controls and rush adventure has so much grinding for materialsSonic Riders and Sonic Rush Adventure BAD?! What???
Everything else is pretty agreeable (disagree on 3D Blast and Spinball though) it’s just those two that flabbergast me. Now I’m curious
in what way? i feel the original sonic riders has an excellent control scheme and very neat mechanics. it is one of the best mascot racing games that existed to mesonic riders just has bad controls
My biggest complaint about Riders is how it's sold as a Mario Kart esque party racing game with items when it's more like an arcade racer a la F-zero.in what way? i feel the original sonic riders has an excellent control scheme and very neat mechanics. it is one of the best mascot racing games that existed to me
the game does have a high learning curve, but that is part of the appeal to me when racing other players online
Honestly I didn't care that much about the plot. While I love Freedom Planet, I will forever be bewildered at the popularity of Spark the Electric Jester. I've only played the first two, which are very impressive as a solo dev project, but I didn't find either to be particularly wonderful. The main impression they left on me was how I don't think I've understood the plot of a game less than the second one. It felt like it was made by someone from the moon.
it's one of the best sonic games made in quite a while imo, although it's a bit shortis shadow generations really so good? shadow is my favourite sonic character so i am happy to hear it seems so well received
it is a pretty plain game, all things considered (i think)I'm still dumbfounded to see Sonic Colours in lower tiers.
I mean people have different tastes yet I feel that the game that was praised as being the Sonic game that "broke the infamous Sonic Cycle" is now considered to no longer be good...
arent the last ones of the image fangames ?
I think your analysis of SA2 is spot on. I enjoyed it; the overall gameplay was fine aside from the issues you mentioned. You guys are going to hate for this, but I did not enjoy "Sonic Adventure 2." The ONLY fun levels in that whole game are the Sonic/Shadow stages. They did a great job bringing the fast-paced action of the Genesis games into a 3D world and almost every stage introduced a new concept; like the Lightspeed Dash returning from "SA1" or grinding on rails.
The mech shooting and emerald hunting levels, which WERE fun in the first game, have been significantly butchered in "SA2". Tails/Eggman aren't nearly as fast as Gamma, the high pitched "BEEEEEEEEEEEP" sound when locking onto enemies is annoying, precision platforming (even with the hover powerup) can be irritating at times, and mowing down enemies isn't nearly as satisfying as it was in "SA1". It was fun to zoom through a level as Gamma, shoot like 7 enemies and get a 30 second time bonus. I don't feel ANYTHING when playing "SA2's" mech stages other a desire to shut the game off and play something else.
As for the emerald hunting stages, my grievanes with these in "SA2" are broken down into 3 categories: unnecessary spacious level designs that don't seem to be built around Knuckles/Rouge's abilities, gimped radar and hint systems. The ONLY stage I liked was "Pumpkin Hill" (No, not the music. Not a huge fan of rap music.) because it's built around Knuckles' ability to glide as well as digging; kinda like Red Mountain in "SA1". But every level after that is just a disjointed mess that makes me question if the designers even played "SA1" before designing these. Plus, I think Knuckles moves a bit TOO fast for my liking and it doesn't feel conducive to his level design. The hint system in "SA2" is WAY more cryptic (especially in "Mad Space" where they REVERSE THE HINT MESSAGES!! Like... Do they just WANT me to hate this game?). In the first game, they were much easier to figure out and sometimes Tikal would literally point you in the direction at which an emerald shard was located. Because of this, the "SA1" stages never really took an absurdly long time to beat. But in the 2nd game, be prepared to spend a good twenty minutes looking for a shard because the hint system is fucking terrible now. To make matters worse, instead of the radar detecting all 3 shards like in the first game, it only detects ONE shard at a time. And the game wants you to find them in a specific order (for some ungodly reason). Because of this, there WILL be times where you find a shard but it's not the one game wants you to grab just yet (Brilliant design, Sonic Team!).
The boss fights are a mixed bag. Some of them are fun to fight—like the pyramid golem and the final Sonic/Shadow boss on Space Colony ARK. But everything else ranges from tedious to just plain aggravating (looking at YOU, Tails/Eggman!).

Sonic Spinball?! We got a man of culture over here
Shadow has the best drip. That's all the credit I'm willing to give.amusingly, shadow is my favourite sonic character
Sonic Shuffle is one of those games where it's decent with friends but absolutely miserable to play against the computer. They cheat. So. Much.Sonic Shuffle - I think I have either Stockholm syndrome for it or just feel really sorry for the missed potential for it.
