I know it's a old discussion but I wanted to know witch one of these two osts is the best.

Edit:(The Japanese version have the best intro music of all time.)

Fot the most part, I prefer the JP/PAL OST; with the only exceptions being "Wacky Workbench", "Tidal Tempest" and especially "Sonic Boom" as I think it suits the intro cutscene a lot better.

I do quite like Sonic Boom, especially the slower ending version, along with the more chill and mysterious special stage theme in the US soundtrack. But I can still remember JP a lot more overall.

Though most of my favourite tracks are from the Past versions of stages, so technically both versions are applicable there.

JP ost flows much better than the US version's. It's a shame. They made their own Present, Good Future and Bad Future tracks but skipped Past entirely, reusing the JP tracks. Gives me musical whiplash when traveling to the past in every stage.

JP/EU. I feel the best Sonic OSTs have such good energy, like the songs themselves make you want to move and groove. I still like some of the US songs, but I just don't enjoy them as Sonic songs if that makes sense. I can't help but feel as if they'd fit in other games more.

Maybe they ran out of time?

That's precisely my only gripe with the American OST. It's not bad by any means, but a lot of the songs seem a bit out of place for a Sonic game.

Sonic is a Japanese series therefore the Japanese OST is the intended one.

Same with Sonic 3D Blast's Saturn/PC soundtrack.

The Japanese version is by far the best, while the American version is the worst. The biggest mistake was using the music from the American version. I’ve never understood why— as far as I know, it’s the only Sonic game, or even Sega game, to have different music, since the following games didn’t go down that path.

I see it like this:
The Japanese original is best to listen to outside the game.
The U.S. one helps enhance certain elements of the game’s world (making the scenario seem more dire and important than originally shown).

Neither is bad. Neither. But I think the JP one has exploded so much because it’s just a great ALBUM. If you haven’t played the game before, or haven’t played much of it, you can still love the music. Whereas the U.S. one is tied to the game more closely, so it’s harder to get into.

Play Sonic CD. It’s a fun game :3
