Alright folks. I recently posted up a top ten about things Sega would like ya to forget and in one discussion I did mention about Sonic Boom and how the change in design and bad game could've ended the Sonic franchise. But in hindsight, what is good for kids can be good for business as well. After all, how come we purchase TMNT toys and such when we were kids? But that's besides the point. In all honesty, how do you all feel about Sonic Boom? The games, shows, characters, etc. Was a change necessary for the Sonic Franchise? Did it needed to include another character in the series? Did the games improve but at a bad time? Let me know on what ya feel.

I personally think the redesigns did nothing for the franchise and stuck it firmly in uncanny valley territory. It's clearly a toyetic move, though, as OP says.

I have chosen to believe that only the opening to the SEGA CD game had anything bearing that name.

That other thing/s, I would rather forget about.

I still think the blue arms were fine on Sonic.

I also think that Knuckles' design should be slightly beefier since he's supposed to be strong (like in the movies not like in Boom).

Same all i know about Sonic Boom was the cartoon

Robotnik was based AF in that cartoon lol
The cartoon was legitimately good.

Any criticism leveled at Sonic Boom:
— We have the TV show.

That's enough for me.

Curiously there are other uses of Sonic Boom besides Sonic CD and Sonic Boom

I think the failure of Sonic Boom was always a bit overblown. It was a fairly lesser known spin-off for a console that didn't have a lot of owners. If the game had been just mediocre it would be completely unknown today. It is funny though how the show was received so differently than the games.

At it's inception, I was kinda excited. 3D Sonics never seemed to get the refining they needed and the idea of one coming from outside Sonic Team made that, in my mind at least, a possibility.

The reality is the game was a poopy flop of bad ideas and missed targets and, looking back, seemed like it was there to promote the show, Not the other way around.

I've seen clips of the program; it can be funny. I was surprised. Still a pass for me tho.

Maybe because of the rather cold reception of Lost World on the Wii U and the lack of real game between Generations and Forces is why people were upset...

Colours? Generations?

Dimps worked on Sonic games but I get what you mean.

Colours? Generations?
Ya know, maybe not a popular opinion but I didn't really find those two games to be very good (waits for angry Sonic mob::huhsonic...).

Generations in particular to me feels... "off"(?).
Colours is... okay, IMO. Still felt a little off. Some of the little color-dude powers felt really ham-fisted to me. But it's mostly a side-scroller, right?

Don't get me wrong, I do love me some Sonic games. It just never (and frankly, still doesn't) made sense to me where they went and didn't go with the 3D games.

Ye gotta be more specific with Generations. Because I might get what you mean by off.

For example, I’m not that much of a fan of the Classic Segments. Classic Sonic has awkward movement & his spindash is too fast, too instantaneous. He is off to me. He doesn’t play like Sonic 2-3. Let alone 1 & CD even.

Yeah, that's kinda the vibe.
He also has a downward momentum that doesn't.... "fit". Like, he lands slower than in any other side-scrolling Sonic. Or rather, feels like his falling momentum is kinda... ?poofy".....

I feel crazy for even pointing it out but it's the only 2D Sonic that a has that sensation to me.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those.
Lately people are starting to like back the "edgy era" of video games while spitting on anything remotely "meta" or "self aware" (or just light hearted/comedic)... I understand being fed up by too many self aware video games we got in the 2010's but this is short memory syndrome to think that the mid 00's was better...

The popular opinion is to dislike "meta era" stuff (which is a silly name for the 2010's Sonic when it's still the Modern era).

And there are some telling that "Mania wasn't that good" but they're few and far between.

In which way? Classic Sonic's controls?

I agree that not every Wisp are made equal but I take this over trying to shoehorn a different gameplay style or character we didn't want to play.

I do wish Ultimate changed the levels to be longer (like it was planned before the Wii's power made them change things).

I also don't mind a lighter story where Robotnik is the final antagonist (for the first time since 3&K) and being able to go underwater without dying or to play as Super Sonic in the regular stages.

I don't fully get what you mean.

Nah I get that part too, it felt like he’s just implemented in a sloppy way. It’s not even that we misremembered anyway.
The devs just didn’t get Classic Sonic’s movement. Meanwhile Boost Sonic is fine.
Boost Gameplay is the best part of Generations for me, & that’s like, a general sense of deja vu. Think about it. Generations is just Unleashed. Both games having boost gameplay that’s just fun & exciting but pretty much short lived, meanwhile the remaining halves are there. I don’t like Werehog, I don’t like Pseudo-Classic. Same shit, different slog.

Those punks are contrarians.
They look at 06 & Shadow the Hedgehog as ‘underappreciated gems’.
As if their standards weren’t low enough.
