This is the Windows PC version of Sonic 3D: Flickies Island (1997) patched to run on modern hardware, tested in Win7 and Win10. Unlike the other well known versions, the Windows PC version is slightly different, it's mostly based on the Sega Saturn version, same graphics, same soundtrack, and same cutscenes, however there are a few differences such as lesser visual effects, more sfx, a save feature, and most noticeably new Special Stages exclusive to this version.

it was a quick fix. S3&K collection has tons of tracks. A lot of the ones used in Sonic 3 by itself are from the beta. Might be for music rights? Plus the composer might have been busy with other Sega games. But I wonder if you could easily replace the beta music with midi from VGMusic?
I remember that it was because of either copyrighted musics, the useage of samples or just because the port was shoddy and rushed.

Nowadays a Genesis Emulator + S3 Complete can run on a potato or even better: Sonic 3 AIR.

I remember having a patched version with the Genesis ost.

This is quite surreal that Sonic 3&K got a port with MIDI musics after this one.

Just tried out both Sonic R and Sonic 3D Blast. They play better than i remember, but they've also been modified a little I noticed. I just so happened to see the cheats menu at the top of the screen. I avoided it throughout all the way up to Panic Puppet Zone Act 3. Then i was down to 2 lives left. I got all 7 emeralds the old fashioned way, 2 in each zone. No cheating. I got the first 6 emeralds on the first try but had to redo the final emerald once i failed to get 500 rings. I did it on the second try no problem. It was easy breezy through the rest of the game and I just gathered up rings and lives like they were candy. But there's a cap on the number of lives you are able to carry and it stops at 9. No continues. Through the entire game i stayed at a comfy 6 lives up until PPZ Act 3. I played using an XBOX One controller which worked great! But yeah. I refilled my lives over and over on the second phase of the boss fight onward. Then the super secret final boss. This game is still a blast. I love the special stages and the OST more than the Genesis and Saturn versions. It's 10 times better with headphones. ^_^ so choice! Highly recommended. Don't feel bad about cheating a little either. The last two zones are particularly frustrating with slopes, moving panels, and all sorts of nasty bullshit. I powered through it, but i had experience dealing with that crap back then with just the arrow keys and the space bar. YEAH. I DID IT. IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE A GODDANG CHAMP FOR IT TOO. :p

This is a port copied from the Sega Saturn version and that is reflected in the graphics and all the assets of the game. but it looks good at least.
the special stages are different though. It's the half pipe like the Saturn but totally different. It's more like Sonic 2's special stages. Saturn had spring jumps. No checkpoints in these special stages either. It's just one big amount of rings you need to collect in one go. No retries unless you die in the regular levels.
