Sonic was pretty much inspired by the music scene from The late '80s & early '90s. Mostly R&B and New Jack Swing. Some pop and j-pop too. Classic Amy Rose definitely would've been into SWV before going to Talyor Swift.

If Sonic is R&B and Swing, Mario is clearly Big Band Jazz, fo sho. The Megaman franchise is the Heaviest Metal (before Guilty Gear's grungy butt rock was realized on the Playstation), but also a bit of Synth Pop for the lighter.

Final Fantasy is Classical Symphony, but in terms of sounding like something from a Movie/Show? One thing I heard was that Nobuo Uematsu was really inspired by the soundtrack to the 1984 "Never Ending Story" composed by Klaus Doldinger. Specifically, the song "Bastian's Happy Flight" Sounds eerily close to some of the Airship themes from Final Fantasy II onward (Highwind takes to the skies being the closest).

I also did a review for the Parasite Eve movie on my channel, where I ended up getting a copyright claim for a song I used. Though, it wasn't for anything I put into the video, but the soundtrack of the movie used in a clip from the film itself. No probs, the copyright holder allows for his shit to be played on Youtube. But the benifit was, I got to figure out who the composer of the movie was, beign a one Joe Haishi (who is a major contributor to Ghibli movie soundtracks).

I bring it up here, because as I was watching them movie, I kept thinking of the music from the game. But the movie came out in 1997, before the PS1 game. But the movie was so popular, it convinced the Japanese populace that mitochondria are green, so I'm betting money on the fact Yoko Shimomura was trying to ape the movie's OST for the game.

Not gonna lie, I always thought the Axel F song from Beverly Hill Cops sounded like a menu theme of a video game.

Sounds like the opening to an adventure game, like the opening credits of Leisure Suit Larry or Police Quest where the story is being set up.

"Guardian Angel", by Juno Reactor reminds me of Streets of Rage 3. The game came out in 1994; the song came out in 1995. This is the starting era of dark techno, jungle, or fast-paced rhythm and base.

Whenever I hear this song, it could fit nearly any fighting game made in the 90s. "On My Own" would fit perfectly in Street Fighter or Fatal Fury.

This is something that would show up in a Sonic game, a Shinobi game, Earthworm Jim, Donkey Kong Country, or even Castlevania.

Getting Ghost of Tsuhima, Samurai Champloo, and Killer Is Dead vibes.

A JoJo song like this would fit in fine with Crazy Taxi and Tony Hawk: Pro Skater.
