Songs and Albums that Make You Cry

it makes me cry that soundcloud is stealing everyones music and shoving it into their generative AI programs mouth to feed it new material

In spite of all the comments above about how SoundCloud profits off of people’s art (how do you think they got ubiquitous in the first place?)… I have to say that I ADORE this sound.

Is it weird to say that I’m imagining Mega Man staring out over a city under siege with this? He’s just taking a moment to respect all that he’s fighting for, reminding himself why he does what he does, before jumping into battle with buster, Beat, and Rush Jet in tow.

I’ve gotta share my own “makes me cry” song. Less a song and more an album.

It made me cry alright coz it reminds of the Armored Core games on the PS1. I cried when fell neck deep in debt after failing some missions.

How does this song make anyone cry? You stoned? Are you trying to promote yourself with this? Not the way chief.

Hey, we all experience emotions on different levels. I’ve cried to things that are PROBABLY silly before, especially music.

I will ask, is there a song that really emotionally hits for you?

Chopin's Prelude in E Minor (Op. 28 No. 4)

Also, absolutely get it. This song is such a pure embodiment of loss that it’s crazy. It’s the song for holding the body of your dying mother, if that was an emotion to be communicated through song.

exactly. i mean, he literally wrote it because he knew that he himself was dying. utterly palpable grief.

Fair enough. For me, it's Sing For Absolution from Muse. I avoid listening to it.

crying for like two days here hahaaaaaa

eels' "Electro-Shock Blues"
The Antlers "Hospice"

Not cry from beginning to end, but multiple times throughout. I'd have a longer list of individual songs, because I can remember songs I heard when I found out someone died. Luckily they're not songs in heavy rotation anywhere, so I don't encounter them by accident.

Maybe I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight (Richard & Linda Thompson), an old British Folk-Rock album (1974).

There is two or three "happy" songs (like the eponym song or "The Little Beggar Girl") but the rest of the songs are full of sadness, and/or loneliness and/or bitterness... (you should just try 'The End of the Rainbow" or "The Great Valerio'") 😢

Not an album but I have a serious weakness when ever John Murphy's "Surface of the sun" is used.
Probably because of AMV's from back in the day, or my own personal connection to Sunshine as 2008 wasn't the best time in my life.
When ever it pops up in a trailer, TV show or film it heightens the emotional weight of that scene even if its from an otherwise mediocre production. It's later usage has hijacked the soundtrack's Wikipedia page its so infamously good.
