I have absolutely no problem with others wishing someone a happy birthday.
But therein lies the problem: multiple wishes from multiple users, daily. If we have 5-10 people with birthdays each day, regular posts get buried under numerous well wishes from every user who wishes each person a happy birthday.

Again, I'm not saying we should get rid of it, but we need a separate system for it. It's as bad as when Fake was posting 20-50 pages at a wack of Mega Man manga, and it’s really unfair to every other user who posts something.

I agree with the separate thread idea. Sometimes I scroll down to see what people are up to and it's all birthday wishes.

And as a bonus, a birthday badge would be fun. XenForo has a guide for it and it seems easy.

I LOVE that!

If there's no strong opposition to moving birthday stuff to a thread, I'll get the thread created in a while.

@Waffles
If there was a way to have any birthday wishes automatically go into their own thread, like an auto-check or something similar, it would be great to remove them from the main page. Again, I’m not suggesting the abolition of birthday celebrations and wish's, I find it cute that people wish each other this. However, it does flood the main page, and as I mentioned before, fake's megaman posting is one of the reason for the current hour-long time limit, more or less. Whether you like it or not, the birthday posts do flood the main page.

It would be nice to have a simple dedicated thread for birthday wishes. Actually, I have an idea, I'm not sure if it can be implemented, but basically what if, when I wish someone like Stingy Perry a happy birthday, instead of the message popping up on the main page, it automatically moves to their inbox? That would solve the problem and still allow anyone to wish them a happy birthday if they want without flooding

I'm not well-versed on the inner workings of XenForo, but it feels like all of that could be accomplished in a much simpler, efficient manner by combining a single thread with Glimbo's suggestion.

Same. I have no idea how Xeno works, but I was only throwing out ideas. I'm sure someone who is more familiar with the coding would know how it works and if it is possible to have this done.

If it costs money, I will straight-up pay for it myself. Let Spike know.

Thank you.

I have relied everything to him, as I often do when a cool idea emerges (no, I have no idea why he hasn't yet blocked me, either).

See, I don't care if people post happy birthday wishes on the front page, no problem with that, really. But unlike the posts, there's no limit. I have seen people post about video games, retro stuff, this or that, and then have their posts completely buried by happy birthday wishes.

And these aren't from multiple users, but from a single user.

For example, if we have, say, ten users with birthdays, one user alone can make ten solid, straight happy birthday posts. That absolutely buries anyone else's posts, not to mention everyone else wishing these ten people a happy birthday.

Again, I’m not looking to abolish birthday wishes, but just like the spam posting on the main page, this issue needs to be addressed, As it is unfair to everyone else

I think it's fine as it is personally. Harmless and hardly intrusive unless you're glued to the status page 24/7 (which I probably am lol). I kinda like seeing them too because people taking a minute out of their day to perform a kindness by wishing strangers on the internet a happy birthday makes me happy.

Besides, status posts are like a side page of the forum, they're already wild west and removed from the forum experience enough imo, I don't think the random birthday wishes are nearly as intrusive as posts containing like twenty non-cropped images of hornyposting or screencaps from their phones in a single post.

@Tonberry
You were not here when Fake-kun posted over 20 full-size manga pages at once daily.
It was aggravating, to say the least. No, I don't mind seeing a user wish someone a happy birthday.

That's not a problem. It's just that one user, and more or less every user, does it.
They wish multiple users happy birthday, and it's not the wishing itself that’s the issue.
The problem is that it buries other users' posts. As I mentioned, it's unfair to users posting legitimate content about game updates or similar topics.

Imagine you posted something heartfelt, something close to your soul, only to have it automatically buried because of 30 "happy birthday" posts within seconds. No one would see it, no one would read it, because they wouldn’t even know you posted it.

This is extremely interesting to referencez and I appreciate that a lot. With a better way of congratulating someone for their birthday, then maybe that could also mean that the harsh rate limit for posting new profile posts can finally be lowered to a reasonable amount :D

This or a Thread dedicated to it would be better than how it's working currently. I'd have to see how a different forum that I use does it but I remember that it has an achievement system that upgrades depending on some actions that you make while using the site and birthdays are one of them. Two of the forums that I use actually have different ways expressing people's birthdays come to think of it

If it's just one user, you could always place them on ignore. I feel like we had a thread about this relatively recently? Maybe around the holidays. But I don't remember what the end result was, though it looks like nothing happened then.

It's not just one user, though, it's multiple users and mods as well.
A couple of users smartly just wish everyone a happy birthday in one post, and that's not a big deal. That doesn't congest or clog the front page. That's more the point I'm making here.

Spike put the kibosh on free posting due to fake and some other users who would constantly post tons of images on the main page. It's rude and asinine to do so. It buries, as I said, other people's posts, and again, it's unfair to people who are posting legitimate things, or even a meme now and then, to get overshadowed by 20 happy birthday wishes from 10+ users wishing everyone well that day.

Now, take into account again that it's not just one user doing it. It's sometime 5 or 15 or more daily maybe fewer one day, maybe more another day, that's the point I'm making.

I'm making the thread anyway, but feel free to do whatever you all want.
Honestly, unless it's made a mandatory thing, it won't do a bit of good.

I'm not saying you're wrong in thinking what you think. Just noting that this came up before. I don't know that I've ever seen the page in question, so I'm more a casual observer of the related discussion since it pops up on the part of the site I actually visit.

nooo wait for my birthday, I want to see posts in my profile :loldog
