This is a Topic I'd thought about, off and on. Had been thinking about Posting this as a Short Individual Thread. Had brought it up to User: Sandogma. In a Castlevania Radio Drama Thread. Basically it is about Anime, Live Action Anime and Soap Operas. That anime is basically Soap Opera, being how Dramatic and out there, the music and all else it be. Not all Anime, Comics and Manga, but a good majority...

Lot of people like Anime and Anime is basically Soap Opera-esc or just That. Though soap opera logic is worse than anime's. Soap Operas are basically Live Action Anime. Just like Law & Order, The Wire, Breaking Bad, House M.D, Master Of Horror that had Norman Reedus, and more. Are live-action anime. Other Cartoons be in the Soap Opera Category as well. Not just Asia Style ones. It may be that most have not been introduced to such Thought, to really notice. There are plenty of Live-Action Anime aka Cartoons. As shows and films.


Naruto sad song is an example of this Soap Opera-like stuff, along with the Scenarios. Naruto Series is a good example on how Plenty of Anime is Soap Opera.

Once you start seeing the Soap Opera threads in everything it becomes impossible to miss. The tropes are everywhere.
90% of all superhero comics are soap operas with spandex. Especially Spider-Man.

This is basically just: "Soap Operas have drama, other things have drama, wait a minute, they're basically the same thing!"

It's a meaningless thing to point out. We label and group things, because that's what we as humans like to do. But these labels and groups aren't actually real. They're just things we make up. As such, everything is similar to everything else if you look for the right comparisons.
Wallace and Gromit is a slice of life anime, Friday the 13th is a teen sex comedy, the Star Wars Holiday Special is an artistic masterpiece showcasing an entire story via a non-verbal cast. I can go on and on.

This is on the same level as: "There are only N stories." (Where N can be any number from two up to seven, usually.)
It's not profound insight on art as a medium. What you've just stumbled upon is a basic facet of human nature.

Soap operas are melodramas, and melodrama (cheap, facile, make-work drama) is the hallmark of "low" entertainment. Anime is not inherently melodramatic; you are using examples of shows primarily aimed at kids, with simplistic characters and story beats.

all forms of entertainment share similar presentation styles, set up and pay off, theatrics, music and many other things. there's only so many ways to present a story. that's why the execution of how a story is pulled off is the main deciding factor of determining if a story is good or not.

It started off as a Discussion Idea, seeing as People have brought this type of stuff up before. Thought it'd be something of a Topic to put, just to expand upon the Concept, considering there are all types of People here with their own perspective and outlooks. Never know what can come from Topics. The examples were just little things to give quick comparisons.
